Max Doren has been a truck driver for many years and now works for Buffalo Bill Transport or BBT. His boss is Rick Barnes, who always gave Max a hard time. Rick always gave him the not so nice runs to the not so nice stops, and Max would always be blamed when things didn't go as planned on the trip. One day, Rick gave Max a run to Seattle, Washington, during a bad snowstorm. The storm was predicted to be the worst that anyone had ever seen, with more than a foot of snow predicted. Max had driven through snowstorms many times. In fact, he was heralded as the best driver in snowstorms for his company. The problem was that they gave him four days to do it and to be there by 6 a.m. on a Thursday. All the drivers at BBT said that it couldn't be done and that Max should refuse the load. Rick told Max that he would be fired if he didn't do the run. Did Max get to Seattle to meet the 6 a.m. deadline? Why was Rick so hard on Max, who was an excellent, hard-working driver?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, The Good Driver, by Gary A. James. There was nothing to disapprove of. My husband was a truck driver for 50 years before he retired, and I understood the truck driver jargon in this book. The book is divided into three parts. It also has some mystery crime-solving for you to do. The book's third part has some exciting surprises you will not expect. Some are good surprises, and some are bad. You get an opportunity to get to know Max. He was an honest guy doing an honest day's work, but it was never good enough. If not for his financial situation, he would have quit his job and gone elsewhere. I felt empathy for him as he had nowhere to turn. The other characters were well-developed, and the author chose to explain each character so that you thought you knew them personally. I liked the author's style of writing, which was easy and uncomplicated. Even though it centered around truck drivers, there was only one obscene word, and the sexual scenes were more suggestive than descriptive.

There were a few spelling and grammatical errors, but I still felt that the book was well-edited. I only recommend this book to adults, as the suggestive sex scenes would not be appropriate for a younger adult. I am happy to bestow this book and author 5 out of 5 stars. I know that you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Max sounds like a real standup guy, so I want to know why Rick had it out for him. My money is on jealousy, as that's typically why people treat you badly for no reason. I suppose I'll have to read the book to find the real reason. I really enjoyed your review. The book seems interesting, and I want to know what could possibly be the mystery-crime aspect because the story seems so straightforward.

Great review. You were fair in your analysis and I enjoyed reading every word of it. Keep up the good work.

This sounds like such a great book! I'd love to be in the passenger seat of one of those and go across the country. (Apart from my motion sickness stopping me in my tracks that is!) I loved your descriptions of the story and the little bits that provoked even questions in my mind. Well done!
It was some good writing! :tiphat:

I'm curious as to why Rick always gives Max such a hard time and why he's so adamant that Max should go in a trip that seems dangerous due to a snowstorm. Thank you for your great review!

Great job done on the review. But why was Rick harsh on Max? Only way to know: read the book.

Max Doren, a seasoned truck driver for Buffalo Bill Transport, faces a tough challenge when he's assigned a run to Seattle during a major snowstorm. His boss, Rick Barnes, gives him the impossible task with a tight deadline, and Max is forced to confront difficult circumstances, including why Rick is always so hard on him. The story follows Max's determination to meet the deadline, despite the odds.

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Good Driver" by Gary A. James, as it provided an insightful glimpse into the life of a truck driver. The author's writing style was easy to follow, and the characters were well-developed, making me feel like I knew them personally. Despite being centered around truck drivers, the book had minimal profanity and suggestive scenes. I appreciated the author's attention to detail and the elements of mystery and crime-solving incorporated into the story. With its exciting surprises and relatable protagonist, "The Good Driver" is definitely a must-read for adults. I would rate this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

(Note: In Massachusetts, there is no specific accent associated with the region. However, a general American accent can be used to humanize the output) Compelling conflict, drove the story forward.
