The following review is of the book Truth and Evil: A Historical Fiction Novelette Set During WWII by G. Edward Martin.

A young soldier was sent to defend Germany in WWII against Russia. During the war, his commander gave him a task to check an area, where he was met with a life-changing decision that would impact his life forever. He had the chance to save a life and positively impact a person's life, but sadly, he made the wrong decision. He did the unspeakable.

Shortly after, his commander asked what he found, and he lied, saying that he didn’t find anything after committing a heinous act. Moments later, he was killed by a bomb that came down from a fire strike in the sky. Immediately, he was brought before God to decide where he belonged and what should be done with him after death. The soldier then remembered his torturous acts and immediately asked for forgiveness.

He was brought back to life for another chance by God. He was given several more chances to try and correct his dreadful first decision. With each chance, the soldier grew wiser and tried to figure out what it was that God was asking of him.

I feel like the lessons that the soldier was presented with can be applied to real life. One is always faced with the choice of good/truth and evil. It’s up to you to make the right decision. Many times, good can be disguised as evil, and it’s up to you to uncover what is real vs. true and what is good vs. evil.

I felt like the book was an easy read, and the lessons that were learned by the soldier were easy to depict and one can apply to their own life. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a great storyline while learning valuable life lessons. I felt like an important value that is preached in this book is that one needs to put themselves into someone else’s shoes before potentially impacting their life forever. It is vital to do more thinking about consequences before reacting and more thinking before acting.

The choice always lies within. Martin makes us ask ourselves: Do you choose good or evil? The Devil is always at your doorstep when you are weak, bearing choices for a decision to depict your future moving forward.

I found no editing mistakes. For all these reasons, I'm giving the book a 5 out of 5.
