Review of Murder Masque
In the thrilling landscape of contemporary mystery novels, Murder Masque by Arlene Kay is a captivating tale that plunges readers into intrigue and deception. Categorized here as C/T/M/H, this novel invites us to join the resourceful protagonist, Marky Davis, and her loyal friend, Gemma, as they navigate the treacherous waters of criminal investigation. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a Beauty Expo, the story kicks off with the shocking murder of Mario Ricci, whose untimely demise leaves a trail of suspicion pointing directly at Aunt Violet, his former lover and a potential heir to his vast fortune. As Marky and Gemma dive deeper into the mystery, they encounter a colorful cast of characters, including a passionate litigator and a militant group, each adding complexity to the case. With stakes rising and danger lurking at every corner, the duo must race against time to clear Aunt Violet's name and unmask the true killer before more lives are lost. Will their determination and clever sleuthing lead to justice? Read to find out.
What I liked most was the protagonist's cunning and personality. In many cases, she seems to be more intelligent and dedicated than the "professional investigators." Marky Davis is a modern woman unafraid to face challenges without losing her feminine essence. The suspenseful atmosphere is also exciting, with the reader wondering who the real culprit is. Ultimately, I must admit that it was not who I thought it was.
I didn't find anything that I didn't like about the book. Everything is written from a female perspective. For example, in some cases, you can see that the interpretation of male behavior was based on what most women think men do. That would lead me to conclude that the author was a woman, even if I didn't know. Since the protagonist is female, this was fine. I only found three grammatical errors, but other than that, the book's editing is decent.
Overall, Murder Masque is an intriguing, intelligent, and remarkable book. Suspense lovers will have nothing to complain about. Since I found nothing that displeased me while reading, the rating is self-explanatory: 5 out of 5 stars. The author is very experienced and talented and has already written several books.
I recommend this book to lovers of suspense and criminal investigation with many female characters. The author said in the description that the target audience was preferably female, but the truth is that, even as a man, I found the book very interesting and well-written, so I don't see why it should be restricted in that sense. In any case, I found several profane words in the book, so I don't recommend that minors read this work.
