Something weird and/or a bit off?

Post by Morrosseth »

I don't know if anyone will know what I mean, but I'm looking for fiction books to read that deal with things that are a bit unusual. Like different kinds of life forms, different dimensions, concepts and ideas that are foreign. Maybe even a little gender bender. Nothing with major politics though.
If it's any help I like these:
Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
Bloodchild by Octavia Butler
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
The Lord of the Rings-J.R.R. Tolkien (not weird but it's my #1)

Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin
Anathem by Neil Stephenson

I enjoyed Hyperion and Left Hand of Darkness. My husband suggested Anathem (I've never read it). Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the recommendations, there was one book by Michael Moorcock that I tried and didn't like. I don't know if it was a Cornelius book or not. It had a blimp on the cover, and I can't for the life of me remember the title. I'll definitley try all these others.

"The Golden Age" by John C. Wright is a bit odd, and hard to understand at first, but good once you figure it out. It's a trilogy.
