Truth and Evil by G.Edward Martin is a historical fiction novelette set in World War 2 in 1942. Hitler in this story is referred to as the Fuhrer, the title used by Nazi Germany in the war.

The main character is a young, German soldier who is drafted into the army. He is given orders to search a cellar for spoils of the war. In entering the cellar, he finds a young, beautiful girl. He is awestruck by her beauty. He decides not to let the other soldiers know of her existence. He and the other soldiers die from a bomb that explodes nearby.

He has displeased the Lord. On his return to the war site, the soldier has to take his orders from the Fuhrer. He is before the Lord again. The Lord says the soldier still has not found the truth the Lord wants him to know. The Lord sends him back to search again for the answer. The Lord returns the soldier several times throughout the novelette in a quest to seek the answer to his salvation. What is that answer? How many chances for redemption are too many?

The part of the novelette I don't like is the reason the soldier hears the sound of the girl's voice speaking. He watches himself, whose body he now occupies, in terror! There are no negative aspects of the novelette I would change. I like the story just as the author told it.

The part I do like is now the soldier becomes known in history as part of an elite group given a name by the storyteller. What was the elite group called? A movement was started by this group. What led to this movement?

I gave Truth and Evil a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This novelette is excellent reading. The story has an unexpected turn, that decides the outcome of the war. This book is perfectly edited. This book is only recommended for mature adult reading.
