The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is highly structured, and this can really be challenging for veterans trying to access their VA benefits. Besides that, there are popular misconceptions about veterans benefits that can be misleading. I think the last thing a veteran should worry about after meritorious years of service is accessing the benefits they deserve. I've read Out of the Uniform, Back into Civilian Life: No Nonsense Veterans Benefits Guide and found it incredibly helpful. The book is written by Lt. Col. Jason G. Pike, USA, Retired. I recommend it to every US veteran. The information in this book can make the process way less stressful and more rewarding.
Readers will find in this book how to apply for their VA benefits, the best way to apply, and the required documents. Pike has provided enough guides to help veterans better understand how the VA works, and I found the discussion really enlightening. For example, several things have been clarified to help veterans understand what truly constitutes a disability in the eyes of the Veterans Administration and the implications of each discharge category. On the subject of discharge categories, the author has made incredible revelations that transcend the conventional understanding of these categories, which I am sure will wow those veterans who may have lost all hope of having any cut from the "large cake."
There is extensive discussion of the VA benefits currently available. The requirements for these benefits have also been provided, and I found them very clear. I appreciate the links provided for readers to access more information on specific topics; this is not only invaluable but contributes to making the book as concise as possible. Jam-packing the book with too many materials might have made it more distracting and disorganized than helpful. Throughout the book, readers will come across "Pro Tips": a really incredible bunch of info and insights. The assistance programs available to veterans are also discussed.
I rate this book five out of five stars because it is detailed, concise, and exceptionally well edited. I didn't find anything inconveniencing.
