I haven’t read this one, but it seems like a great book for helping people understand the history of racial tensions at that time. Taking a personal look at one person’s story is so valuable. I also always enjoy a great tale of lifelong friendship. Thanks for an intriguing review.

I like how the author talked about many moments in American history. This is something I don't have much knowledge about. You review picked my interest about the book Gerry. I would like to give it a try.

The story of Vanessa seems engaging, and you open the review with a captivating description of the plot. Well done.

Growing up priviledged it's still important to be documented on how history treated the lives of less fortunate ones. Books give us the opportunity of sharing awareness and becoming involved in the struggles of others.

Love the review especially for its brevity ans succinctness. I dont know a lot about American history but do agree that the pre/post civil war periods may have been tumultuous.
Look forward to reading this book!!

I liked that Sister Rosalie took a responsibility of teaching the orphans about American history which included the Civil War and the civil rights movements. This would be an inspiring and enlightening book.

I enjoyed this book when I read it and I must say that the author did a great job in the characters development. My favourite character is vannessa. I also loved the friendship between her and Trisha. Thank you for the great review.

The fight against racism is a timeless conflict, but alas, I'm not a hopeless romantic. Why is calm deceptive? This makes me curious to find out more of the book.
I write the best reviews possible. :idea2:

I have read a wide range of reviews for this book; some say they loved it, some are not very encouraging. Hence, did not pick it up although the plot sounded interesting. Your review encourages me to read it. Thanks @Gerry Steen
