I'm not a fan of autobiographies or memoirs, so I don't think this book is for me. However, I enjoyed the review, and the book does sound quite intriguing.

The memoir captures a young person's journey through the 1960s. Their interaction with various aspects of the counterculture movement is eye-opening and transports readers to a pivotal time in history. The chaos, spiritual awakening, and unexpected challenges make for a good read.

The Divine Memoir by Sankarshan Das focuses on the memoirs of a young American, Steve Bridge. Steve Bridge is a young man who is having trouble adjusting to the materialistic world and is in search of the true meaning of life. This was the time when hippie culture was at its peak in America, and the protagonist also finds himself drawn towards spirituality. The writing is characterized by simple language and a clear writing style. Congratulations on being declared a 'botd'!

I am a believer in the fact that everyone has a connection to the spiritual that is even stronger and influences their outcomes than the physical. The characters in this book, though fictional, portray this.

I feel for people struggling to find their place in the world, but I never understood why it required so much traveling to discover yourself. Is it really necessary to feel comfortable in your soul and skin to try subcultures and foreign traditions? Apologies, I must simply not get this spiritual philosophy thing and prefer to pass the book. Still, congratulations on BOTD!

"The Divine Love Memoir" by Sankarshan Das is a story about the 1960s counterculture movement, following a young man’s quest for love and peace in the exciting setting of San Francisco. This young man left his small town and traveled to northern California. The 1960s were very wild in San Francisco where hippies, musicians and psychic leaders congregated. Fights became prevalent especially at big events like the Altamont Free Concert where a murder occurred in the crowd of a Rolling Stones concert. The Hare Krishna group promoted their spiritual teachings to many and the main character explores different spiritual teachings including Hare Krishna on their quest for enlightenment. The description of the Haight-Ashbury brought back even more memories of being a teenager in the 1960s, following the protests in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention, hippies, peace symbols, headshops, the Black Panthers, Chicago 7, draft protests and the many popular musical groups formed in California. The writer’s style is very engaging and is perfect for this memoir. The descriptions are so vivid that I could imagine myself being there and participating with the hippies and attending the musical concerts and Vietnam war protests. Being in college I saw draft and anti-Vietnam war protests first hand. Sit-ins were popular and fellow students wanted peace and love, not war.

Cross culture and about life in 1960s spikes curiosity. The quest for meaning is beautiful. I want to read more about what "Hare Krishna" is about. I hope the author finally found the meaning he was searching for.
