Review of Instant replay
Eleven years ago, Donna Phillips and Lucas Payne were high school sweethearts. Lucas was a talented football player. Since Donna wanted to be a physical therapist, they made plans to attend college together and build a life in Miami. Then, a month after prom, Lucas broke up with Donna. He attended college in Michigan, leaving Donna behind in Miami. Lucas became a professional football player and led the Detroit Lions to the playoffs. However, his plans to lead the team to the Superbowl are altered by the National Foot Ball League. Lucas learns he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. To make matters worse, Donna is the head trainer for the team. Lucas still has feelings for Donna too.
Donna's love for Lucas remained, but the pain of his departure was too deep for forgiveness. She had to hear about his decision to leave from Lucas's father, Del Payne. Del had been rude and told her to leave his son alone. He accused her of being interested only in the wealth his son would earn as a football star. Del tried to pay for Donna to get an abortion. Donna has worked hard to raise Katie without any help. How will Lucas react when he learns he has a daughter?
Sheila Fowler’s Instant Replay is the first book in the Miami Sports Romance series. The suspense starts from the first page as Donna discovers that her crush, Lucas, also had feelings for her. Lucas came from a rich family, while Donna’s family was far from rich. The relationship between Donna and her daughter was relatable. I could understand how Donna wasn’t able to move past her memories of Lucas because her daughter shares similar features. She has his eyes, his hair, and exceptional athleticism. The feelings of betrayal made the story unpredictable.
This intriguing book exceeded my expectations, leaving me with nothing to criticize. Natural dialogue created engaging conversations, and the perceptions of Donna and Lucas were unique. The vivid details made every moment easy to envision. I found the supporting characters added depth to this captivating romance novel. Therefore, I rate Instant Replay five out of five stars.
Mature fans of second-chance romance novels will enjoy Instant Replay. The author’s research into the Miami Dolphins brought a realistic feature to the story. Profanity and explicit scenes may offend some people. Likewise, the book is better suited for adults. I was so impressed with the book that I am eager to continue reading the series.
