There is a bitter-sweet element to this book.
A balance of innocence and hardship, and yet during the hardships Monica is able, through the means of her childhood friends, get a taste of the lavish lifestyle of the rich.
Every experience during her childhood shaped her mindset for her journey into adulthood.

This is an excellent autobiography.

Thank you for a great review. The tile of this book immediately caught my attention, and I expected it to be filled with parent-child conflict. Apparently, that is not the main theme, and I am even more interested in reading the book after reading your review. The main character sounds like a very adventurous young woman who showed great courage by leaving home at such a young age.
