Review of The Mysterious Guest
Detective Ethan Carter's job is on the line when Marge Spencer, the Maple Tree Inn's innkeeper, finds Mr. Jameson dead in his room, and he cannot find any evidence of why he was killed or who did it. Then, the press reports confidential information about the case that can compromise the case and make things more dangerous. Although it may make the police department look weak, Ethan gets help from two local citizens: Emma Chandler and Ollie Bradshaw. As their investigation progresses, they discover their community has many secrets. What are these secrets? How can two civilians help with the investigation? Who was Mr. Jameson? Why was he murdered? Who murdered him?
The Mysterious Guest by Anna de Wahl has a fantastic crime mystery storyline that shows that the truth will always prevail. The author's writing skills allowed me to feel the characters' intimidation, frustration, fear, betrayal, grief, and other emotions. For example, I could feel Emma's grief when she visited a cemetery. The killer's identity kept me guessing throughout the storyline, although the author did provide hints. I also enjoyed the many life lessons throughout the story. My favorite was when you find yourself in a bad situation, you must speak up before it worsens. The author skillfully alluded to events in the previous books in the series, which helped me better understand this book’s characters.
This book had no errors or anything I considered negative about it. It was written with a smooth-flowing, suspenseful, intriguing plot and an appropriate ending to continue the Cedar Harbor mystery series. I hope to read more of Anna de Wahl's books. For these reasons and the positive aspects discussed above, I gave this exceptionally well-edited book 5 out of 5 stars.
This book is appropriate for fans of the mystery and crime thriller genres. There are only a couple of minor borderline profane words and no sexual or religious content that would be offensive to anyone.

Who was Mr Jameson indeed, and why was he murdered in his bedroom? If MR Jameson was part of this community, why was he staying at the Maple Tree Inn like a stranger or a traveler?
