Review of Enjoy Passion and Profit by Starting a Yoga Business
When you ask the random adult their life plan, it's usually to get a job or start a business. But most people don't know what it means to own and succeed at a business. Some start up a business, and after some time, the business crumbles, while others start their business and watch it flourish. Amelia Everheart states the difference between both sets of people in the pages of the book Enjoy Passion and Profit by Starting a Yoga Business. Using yoga as an example, the author gives detailed advice on how to start and grow a successful business.
She starts by explaining what an entrepreneur is, the different types of entrepreneurs, what makes a good entrepreneur, the pros and cons of an entrepreneur, and much more. Since the book is about how to start and succeed at running a yoga business, she talks about what yoga is and how important it is to the human body. Then, further discussion will be provided on the different niches that yoga involves, such as prenatal and therapeutic yoga. This helps you understand where to focus your attention as a yoga instructor. She also discusses the customer demographics, such as the age of the customers, their health condition, and so on. Things like this will help us understand each customer's needs and help us plan out the different membership programs suitable for the customers.
Aside from the ton of entrepreneurial knowledge this book provides, there is much to learn. I learned about different yoga poses, their uses, where they originated from, and so much more. When it comes to yoga styles, although I like Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, I found Bikram, also known as hot yoga, to be even more unique because it has to be done in a heated room at a specific temperature. I also liked that the book came with multiple images that helped me better understand what the author was trying to say. Especially the ones with the yoga poses.
Several other things stood out in this book, such as how detailed it is. This book gave very easy steps to start a yoga business. However, it is better than that, as these tips would help start any business, irrespective of the location. Using Elon Musk as an example, she explained the traits an entrepreneur should have while emphasizing the importance of having a vision and looking beyond the present. I also like that the book included several credentials required to be a professional yoga instructor. This means clients can trust their instructors, knowing they are certified to teach.
The downside of this book is that it is a bit repetitive. Some of the points are repeated at different parts of the book. Also, some parts of this book included tables, making it a bit boring for some readers. Apart from that, it was very easy to read and also very educational. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars for the reasons above. I'm only deducting a star due to the downsides I mentioned. When it comes to the book's editing, it was flawless, as I did not spot a single error while I read. I recommend this book to anyone interested in yoga and starting a business.
