I expected more in terms of people leaving her once she asserted her independence. I never came across anything like that in the book.

I think the title of this book is definitely eye-catching and draws the reader in. However, I do not completely agree that this is an apt title for this novel. Based on the title I expected the book to tell a story about how Swaida's eyes were opened to doing a lot of her own research and fact checking (which IS addressed in the book) and how that led to her family or those close to her rejecting her in some way. This does not seem to be the case in this instance as most of the people Swaida encounters throughout the book may not agree with her, but at least agree to have a conversation hearing her point of view. I think the current title of the book is slightly misleading, as it seems to imply it may be more of a self-help book instead of more strongly focusing on Monica's life story. While it is an engaging life story, this book is not completely applicable to the average person.

As soon as I read this on BOTD, my mind went to all the unhealthy relationships I had left behind and felt sad that this was more common than I thought. Love shouldn't be conditional, it should be reciprocal. I take care of you and you take care of me, is the best way to make a relationship happy and lasting. I didn't think of an alternative title though...

I haven't read this book yet but the title makes me think it can go two different ways. Either about a romantic relationship of a family-orientated one. 'They Love you Until You Start Thinking for Yourself' makes me think of the struggles that someone has to go through when dealing with a narcissist. When someone's love is conditional until you start thinking for yourself and those thoughts but the other person in a bad light and they hate it. Guess ill have to read to find out.

I haven't read the book yet. I think unhealthy relationships, something probably bordering narcissism. I'm about to dive in. Wish me luck!

The title made me think I was going to read a story about the price of independence and the courage it takes to think for yourself, even when it's not what others expect or want from you. And in many ways, the book delivered on that expectation

The title suggests that the book is a combination of a memoir and a self-help book where the author recounts her Journey to prove herself to her family and friends. I think the title suits the book well considering that the subject is very close to the title.

Halfway through the book, I thought the title wasn't the best fit, but with time,, I realized it was a good fit. The title is just like a paradox until one tries to take a deep look at it beyond the mere words you find its message.

The title suggests a journey of self-discovery, independence, and the cost of challenging norms. It likely explores how support fades when you think differently, highlighting the struggle of staying true to yourself.

I expected a book that would unravel deep thoughts on human behaviors and psychology. I also expected to find relatable situations where a person stands out for themselves instead of investing so much energy to please everyone so they can feel accepted and how thoss people react.

I was expecting the book to be more about relationships and gender discrimination. I thought the author was going to talk about some relationship issues that they had with previous partners, and possible gender discrimination in the workforce, where the author explains how they were treated differently by being independent and not just listening to what people told them. I think since the title has the word love in it, it could've implied love and relationships.

I was actually shocked when the book wasn't necessarily about gender discrimination, but more about accidental racial discrimination, particularly from those of their own ethnicity. The book wasn't about romantic partners at all, but more about the author's personal story and how they managed to succeed in life from humble beginnings.

I feel like the title does not match what is in the book. I have been reading life stories clearly indicated as autobiographies at the beginning. This author must be very creative to come up with such a title because myself I thought I would find a betrayal kind of a story.
