Obsolete, stylish collectible that killed people?
A cigarette holder?
I know smoking is an awful habit, but those holders were a thing of beauty.

I have to admit that you and Marie have a better argument for lighters and cigarette holders being better collectables, but the riddle answer is also. So no, that is not the correct answer but you are both smoking hot on the trail (no pun intended).

Great riddle, @DATo ! That took me back. Ashtrays were ubiquitous when I was growing up.

NEW RIDDLE

I go back to ancient China.
I used to be made of gemstones.
I'm one of the most often lost items.

What am I?

Well, I know jade was the most valued stone in ancient China (maybe it still is), and "most often lost" suggests something small and portable ... so I am going to say jade cameos?

Well, I think keys are the most often lost item, but according to my research, the early Chinese ones were made of bronze - not gemstones.
I do misplace my cell phone and glasses.
“Hey Google, did the ancient Chinese have jade glasses?”

Not a jade cameo, @DATo. Though I wish they were that popular.

Process of elimination: Diana was "so very close". but is she close in regard to keys, cell phones or glasses? Well, the ancient Chinese didn't have cell phones, nor did they have glasses (I don't think) so that leaves keys ... which also leaves DATo more stumped than ever. :eusa-think:

Glasses are close to the eyes.
Eyes are close to the ears.
I am going to guess earrings.

And also ... cell phones ring and then you have ear rings. :shifty:
