Icon Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice

Post by princesschae »

Now I've never been one to read erotic books. To be honest I'm still not. But my roommate had the first book in the series, "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty", and I'm still a big fan of fairy tales, so I picked it up to give it a try. Now there is a LOT of domination in these books. Definitely not my cup of tea lol. But after I read the first book I decided to read the entire series just so I know what happens and how it ends. Does anyone else do this? I've just started the second book, "Beauty's Punishment", and I was wondering if anyone else had read this series and what they think about it.

This series was odd even for the erotica genre. I am not a prudish reader by any means, but this sometimes went a little far for me. Admittedly, some parts are so hot and heavy that I couldn't put it down. Overall I would land on the side of Anne Rice trying to break out of her usual genre and not knowing the subject matter well enough. In some parts I was flat confused as to what was going on.

I've read some hardcore erotica but this series touched on taboos that I just couldn't get with (the cat, was it?). Too much spanking too.

I have only read half of the first book. I never felt like it was so erotic I couldn't put it down it was like a car accident you couldn't look away from. But still I could not continue it was to much domination and humiliation as a woman I felt offended in some chapters. I wanted to continue and finish to see if sleeping beauty had the upper hand at the end but I could not get my self to finish the first book . Maybe one day I'll read the full trilogy

I only read a few pages of book 2 and it was too much. I love erotica, enjoy reading about punishment but Anne Rice went a little too far with the bondage and spanking. I was left cringing rather than turned on.

Yes there was a ton of domination in this book and a LOT of spanking, but for some reason it was book I HAD to finish. The writing wasn't the greatest but for some reason I don't know how I got so drawn in. None of the BDSM bothered me I have a huge open mind and knew it was just part of the book. Someone who isn't open to BDSM isn't going to like this book. Kind of debating on reading the last two just to know what happens.

I read the sleeping beauty trilogy. I really tried to like it. But I just couldn't. I liked Anne Rice's vampire chronicles and her mayfair witches books but not the sleeping beauty trilogy. I think she did kink in Exit to Eden better because the kink was more a vehicle for the romance and character development in that.

Once started, this is a trilogy that begs to be finished
