Sorry but I too am having trouble with your instructions for bold and italics. I added the codes in the body of my review of the book, for the book title and the ratings. When I clicked preview, the title is not italicized nor the ratings bolded.
Do I put the before or after the word to be italicized and the before or after the ratings needing to be bolded?

I'm not sure if you have been assisted yet. From what I can see, you are using the wrong set of brackets. Try using [ and ] and not () or {}
TEST using { }: {i}italics{/i}
TEST using ( ): (I)italics(/i)
TEST using [ ]: italics
