Review of Having a Catch
Having a Catch—Leadership 60 Feet at a Time—By Darin K. LeGrange
This book is about leadership in business, church, groups of any kind, family, and any personal relationship. The author has a unique spin on teaching the subject he calls ‘Servant Leadership.’ This leads others humbly, the opposite of leading in a dominant, haughty, or boisterous manner, which sometimes comes across as looking down on others. The author teaches leading from behind by encouraging, listening, and believing in people, then releasing them trained, confident, and looking forward to successful lives. My favorite and most beautiful part of the teachings is what those in ‘Servant Leadership’ do when people make mistakes.
There are steps to take to learn to be this kind of leader. The author talks about his faith in God and his relationship with his father, whom he uses as an example of the steps to live a life of ‘Servant Leadership.’ Those with leadership roles interested in enhancing their relationships with their workers or groups can find excellent lessons in this book. People who need help in their relationships with family and friends can benefit from this book by learning what ‘Servant Leadership’ is, which is the beautiful sharing of the bond of God’s love between relationships.
His teaching about different kinds of love and the kind of love needed in ‘Servant Leadership’ for the people under the leadership is the kind of love that God has for all the world, and this is one of the first steps. His stories about him and his father having a catch are endearing and are the theme of object lessons throughout the book. He talks about his relationship with God as his Heavenly Father. I like that he said that the greatest Servant Leader in history walked the earth over 2,000 years ago. Readers will remember the steps taught by the author because of his object lessons.
The book had no typos or grammar errors. I enjoyed how the author organized the steps and added his stories, making the lessons memorable. I found no dull parts in the book; the pacing was perfect, and it was easy to follow along with the author’s thoughts. There was nothing that I disliked. The author could have had more pictures of his father and him. Because of the reasons above, I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars. Readers of any age would enjoy this book.
