Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

No. I thought Monica's story was an ultra-specific example of her experience with immigration. However, I think this is a rather unique experience that not all immigrants are going through. While hard work and dedication may have worked out for Swaida, a lot of immigrants face many more challenges and hardships than Swaida and her family had to endure. I think this book makes some broad assumptions about all immigration given the author's positive experience and success. I think this can be harmful as the author advocates for political policies that would actively harm and hinder other immigrants in similar positions to her.

Monica Omorodion Swaida’s memoir offers an unfiltered look at the immigrant experience, capturing the struggle between cultural expectations and personal growth. Her reflections on the ‘japa’ journey reveal the resilience needed to thrive in a new world, making this a compelling read for anyone navigating identity and belonging.
