Anyone else get motion sick when reading in a car?

I get car sick too, from reading and staring at my phone. Chewing mint gum, not taking a huge meal before, taking breaks, and opening windows are the only things that work for me. Good luck!

Oh absolutely! I do when using a phone, hand-held game device, or reading. All of these are almost a no-go for me when riding in a car. I just end up sitting back and enjoying music, or listening to audiobooks. While looking at the world pass by.

I guess reading goes hand in hand with concentration. I am sure In a traffic, part of your mind is in the book and the other monitoring the traffic

I think I've experienced something like this firsthand. I noticed that sometimes when I read a book in one sitting because I'm engrossed or have an interest in what I want to find out from the book, I often feel a bit nauseous or lightheaded. It may be because of my rapid-eye movement.

I try to hard to read in the car but its not easy. i usually can only read when im listening to an audiobook. I have terrible motion sickness.

I was beginning to wonder if this was just because my sight is very bad. Its good to know others experience it too. I'm excited to read the comments and see the possible causes of this.

This is never an issue I've had to deal with, but my wife does suffer from motion sickness. She has not found any significant difference between reading a paperback or an e-reader - the sickness strikes all the same.

I have the same problem, I can not read in a car or bus. I can read on the train and plain though. The good thing is that nowadays we have audiobooks and that solves the problem for me..

I used to when I was a young person; however, I've noticed that it has diminished over the years, and is, for the most part, non-existent today.

Ughhh yes! Ever since I was really small I get really sick. The funny thing is I only get motion sick if it's a long trip? Like if I am going to visit my cousin who lives 20 minutes away in car, I can read without any problems, but the second the trip is like going on vacation or going to my dad's village I get sick in minutes. I think at this point is more a mental thing that anything (I do still get very sick though, just a couple of weeks ago we had to stop the car in a service stop because I was about vomit, and all I had done was open a twitter notification, read it, and left the phone, that's all it took oof).
Most of the times the medication I take doesn't really do much so I've given up and just fall sleep in the car instead.

I used to read in the car as a kid but I can't as an adult, not that there's as much of an opportunity now anyway. I can only look down for a few minutes at a time before I start to not feel great, so it's not worth it to me. Even planes I need to take breaks tbh, although I can go for more like 15 minutes at a time before stopping for a bit.

I also get really sick when I try to read in the car. What helps me is positioning the Kindle in a way that i don't have to lower my head. And listening to audiobooks is also a good ideia.

I haven't ever had an issue with reading while in a car. Growing up, I would read while swinging and that would occasionally make me a bit dizzy since the ground would rush by behind the book. I don't think I would handle that quite as well now, even just thinking of it now makes me think I would at least get a headache.

Yes I can't fully concentrate on what I'm reading when I am riding in a car. I don't get that nauseous, just a little disoriented. It's a different feeling/experience compared to when I am reading on an airplane, boat or train.
