The sample didn't give any part of the story, so I am glad to read this review. I respect the story's purpose and display the point, but struggle when the point is unreasonable because of lack of numbers etc. So I don't think I will be reading the book based on the review. Which is sad because I like story's where unlikely people become friends and fight the odds. BTW, congratulations on the BOTD.

A unique friendship and lots of lessons to learn. Lee and Buffy seem to have done a good job of influencing young minds. Loved the cover for starters. I hope the author and the illustrator will consider your suggestions for their upcoming books. Thank you for your informative review.

Nice in-depth review of the story.
Stopping hatred and racism should begin early in life, and teaching children that everyone is different and that is what makes us all unique is good. This should be on every child's bookshelf.
As far as adding different animals and making it more complex, you have to remember, it's a small child's book, as you said, 6-8 years old, too complex, and they lose interest.
Congrats on BOTD I hope it does well.
:eusa-think: Teach a child to read, and they can go anywhere and be anything within the pages of a book.

The Unique Friendship of Grover and Steve" by Lee Cherry, a book that features a donkey and his friend, an ostrich. It is a book about friendship. It will be interesting to read more about it.

I do not know how the two, Grover and Steve, managed to save the situation, but I agree with the argument that it would be more realistic to have a great number or give the two characters some superpowers. Nevertheless, I am glad that the book is packed with invaluable lessons on leading a principled life.
Many thanks for the review, @Rishaunda Lynnette Britton.

I love the theme and the moral lesson from this book. It is best to teach children at a young age to accept and respect the differences of every individual as we are all unique beings. The illustrations will make the reading more interesting.

:tiphat: "The Unique Friendship of Grover and Steve" is a wonderful opportunity to abdicate the human-aggressive environment for cooperation. I appreciate the reviewer's candor in accentuating the aspects of collaboration and incorporating depth into the illustrations. As the book is written for children, the review points to ample reasons for reading it and sending it as a gift. Great review; thank you.

This book is good for children, it's full of valuable life lessons, it's a perfect guide on the ability to maintain good friendships, how to sow beyond racial abuse and criticisms.

It’s a very good introduction for kids to being friendly and accepting people from all points of life no matter the look, language or color

This is a great book to teach children about the several differences people (or animals) have and that this should not determine a friendship or any type of relationship.

Authors of any children's book that combats bigotry and intolerance are heroes, as far as I'm concerned. With all of the garbage these days resulting from attempts to roll back reforms that have strengthened equality and kindness, these types of books grab hold of youngsters at a formative age, hopefully setting the groundwork for them to become kind, loving adults. Congrats to the author and illustrator for BOTD.

I have a 6 year old that I know would just enjoy reading this story. Your review was thoroughly written and I appreciate knowing that there's a valuable lesson in the story. And I do agree that the use of different animals would make a story like this more realistic.
