The down side is that it's not flash compatible. Mine was given to me as a gift and I love it, but if I'd been making the purchase myself, I'd have gone with a flash compatible tablet, and just installed the kindle app.

I do love it for its ease. I feel I read books faster when in eformat. And I'll give a perfect example. I started reading my recent review book on the Kindle app via my desktop, and I got so distracted by everything else on my computer that I couldn't get through it. I finally decided to move it over to my actual Kindle device and I zipped through it, no problem. I also like it for car rides, as it doesn't bounce around as much as a book. It's steadier and I don't find myself getting a headache/car sick from it.
That's not to say that I don't still buy print books. I do. I have purchased a ridiculous number of them over the last year (yay library book sales!) and I still love traditional reading. I don't understand the argument that ebooks are going to cause print to go the way of the Dodo. Audiobooks didn't. Stairs still exist, despite elevators and escalators. I think if ereaders help a person read more/start reading altogether - especially kids - then more power to them. That's what books are for.

And mods, delete this if I'm breaking a rule, not intention, but since the discussion is about Kindle's specifically. My author actually is giving away a Kindle Fire HD with case right now as a promotion. If anyone wants details, send it via pm so I don't break my word of not putting any spam in my discussions on here. I promised I wouldn't and I wont.
