RIP Farley Mowat

Farley Mowat is a Canadian author and environmentalist who passed away earlier this month (May 6, 2014). He is most known for his works on the Canadian north such as People of the Deer and Never Cry Wolf. He served in WWII, published over 15 million copies of his works and received the Governer's General award in 1956 for his novel Lost in the Barrens .

While I don't recall reading anything by him in my youth, I do remember him being involved in environmental issues and the passion that he had. He was always very vocal in terms of the environment and was very inspirational.

I would like to read one of his main novels this year to commemorate him.

Does anyone have any fond memories of his work or perhaps something that touched them in regard to his opinions involving the environment?

He was amazing. Never Cry Wolf was the first book my parents gave to me as a gift, when I was a child. Somehow, I hadn't heard of his passing. Haven't kept up on the news in the past few weeks.
