I'm not a fan of war fiction but the book sounds very poignant telling us about a teacher who got caught in a war and who has to deal now with psychological, emotional and physical scars that this war left. I'm sure the book will find its reader. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I know how emotional war stories are. Interesting to learn more about war complexities to the veterans and all the parties involved. I will too recommend this book to a friend who has been keen to follow up on how war in Vietnam could have been. I know this book will help them get a glimpse of Vietnam war.

Wars are destructive, cruel and devastating to witness. We as someone who is fortunate enough to not witness such gore situation, can only imagine the gruesome pain it can cause to people, soldiers, families involved. This book is a great source to get a picture of that brutality.

The effects of war last long after the war has ended. It effects the soldiers, but also their families and loved ones at home, as well as the civilians inadvertently caught up in it. To be held captive as prisoners of war must be devastating.

Thank you for your insightful review of "Brothers Bound" by Bruce K. Berger.
I plan to read this story -- a haunting and profoundly moving story of the Vietnam War, the spirit of friendship between two soldiers that grows into brotherhood, a story of human resilience and the human spirit to survive war, and live for a better day.
Thank you.
Congrats on BOTD.

I am not a war book fan but I think I might give this book a good try. I also know there's quite a bit of my family who have been through war and tough times after wars so I am going to suggest this as well.

Brother's Bound seems to be an emotional book. I want to read it because it shows how hard war is, especially for Buck and Hues. Their friendship and fight to survive make it really interesting.

The book seems to revolve around the impact of the Vietnam War on the protagonists of the story and how it impacted their lives while there and after they returned home. The author seems to have done a good job describing their experience and emotions.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and in-depth review. What struck me most was how you emphasized the emotional and psychological aftermath of war—not just the physical toll. The idea that surviving doesn’t always mean living is heartbreaking, and it sounds like Brothers Bound captures that reality with great sensitivity. I’m especially intrigued by Buck’s “memory room” as a coping mechanism—it seems like a powerful metaphor for how soldiers mentally escape trauma. The bond between Buck and Hues also sounds like the heart of the story, showing how human connection can be a lifeline in even the darkest moments. I appreciate how the review didn’t just summarize the plot but dove into the themes of trauma, resilience, and brotherhood. Definitely adding this to my reading list.

This book contains such an emotional tale of war and survival where there is no winners only survivors. It's a book that keeps the memories of yesterday's war alive, the pains, the cuts so deep and so unforgettable. This would be an interesting book to have for keeps.

War is, indeed, destructive and always results in a heavy cost, especially to those involved in it. I am wondering how Buck and Hue got out or were rescued, and hence the book is already on my to-read shelf. The fact that the book teaches many important lessons and has many likable aspects makes it a must-read.
Many thanks for the review, @Onyinyechi Obi.
