What Did You Do at School Today? written by C.C. Lacavera is a rollicking book sure to please any preschooler's heart! The book is written from the perspective of a parent asking their child about their day at school. I can see this book being used as a discussion guide into the specifics of your child's day. Every sentence in this book is a question, so every sentence is a possible conversation starter. The lovely rhyming cadence and colorful pictures are sure to elicit more detailed accounts of your child's day than plain questions ever could. I quickly noticed the variety of skin colors and types of clothing depicted on the dozens of cute children illustrated on the pages. Inclusive illustrations are always a huge win to making books feel relatable to as big a portion of children as possible. Oh! Did I mention the rhyming? In my estimation, rhyming books are so much more fun for reading aloud. Most of the rhyming is very natural, although there is one specific page that feels a little forced but not so badly it ruins the story. The beginning of the books starts with very basic, realistic questions such as "Did you draw, did you paint?" and progresses throughout the book to more imaginative questions such as "Did you climb up a rainbow to clouds in the sky?" These fanciful questions are sure to spark even more creative discussions about the wonders of imaginative play. The editorial team for this book did an excellent job on ensuring that there are no misspellings and no grammar mistakes. In summary, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars because I found no mistakes, and from cover to cover this book was well-done. Whether you pick up this book to read aloud to your preschooler, to read aloud to your class, or simply to give you ideas for ways to spice up after-school conversations, I believe there is truly some fun in these pages for everyone.
