I don't know much about Australian history and I don't have much interest in it, so I may not be the best audience for Memoir by Warren Thomas Brown. However, it sounds like a great read for those interested in the subject.

It's sometimes sad how criminality and corruption start so small. It's unfortunate how sometimes it feels like there's no way out of this vicious cycle. Kudos to the author for this work. Seems like it's very gripping. Good review.

I've always been interested in Australia though I don't know much about it. It would be nice knowing more about it from this book, in addition to learning from the author's personal experiences and business dealings.

I'm not sure if I'll enjoy this memior, although it's one of my favorite genres, this one didn't really capture my attention when reading the sample. I think I'll give this a skip. Thanks for a great and detailed review. Congrats on BOTD.

This book would be a suitable one for entrepreneurs. The strategies and advices in the book would actually help them in their decision making concerning their own business. Great review.

Corruption is the bane of many societies. Sadly, almost every society suffers from the effects of corruption in civil service and public service. Although this book mirrors Australian interior societies, the issues it handles are global.

Warren Thomas Brown exposes the incompetence and corruption within Queensland’s Civil Service, offering a candid, eye-opening perspective on the moral ambiguities and casual criminality required to navigate bureaucratic systems.

The fact that Warren shares about tough time times is really inspiring and encouraging at the same time. I love the whole plot of this book.

While tailored to those fascinated by Australian history, Brown’s superbly edited Memoir captivates with its blend of personal and historical narratives, though its niche focus might feel monotonous to less invested readers.

This book isn't within my scope of read. But the reviewer mentioning that the author balances personal life with business dealings nicely might add some lightness to it.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review. I appreciate how you highlighted not just the historical aspects of Memoir by Warren Thomas Brown, but also the deeper moral questions the author grapples with in navigating bureaucracy and corruption. Your point about how people tend to idealize "First World" countries really stood out to me. It's refreshing to see a book that challenges that perception by shedding light on the flaws within Australia's Civil Service, especially during the rise of its mineral industry. I also liked how you acknowledged the book's potential to feel monotonous to readers without a strong interest in Australian history—your honesty adds credibility to your recommendation. I'm definitely more interested in checking this one out now.

I sampled the book, and I think it is well-written. I like the author's tone. I don't know much about Australia and its story, so I think this "Memoir" where the author is narrating and is describing his childhood, is a good way to familiarize myself with Australian history. The review mentions that there are several profane words, if there are too many, it might throw some readers off.

"Memoir" by Warren Thomas Brown is a non-fiction book for adults that delves into the complexities of navigating bureaucracy and business. The author takes an in-depth look at the moral doubts and casual or unexpected corruption needed at times to maneuver through bureaucracy and business. Casual criminal perked up my attention since having been a business major in college and earning my MBA I have never seen or heard this used in business. The story takes place in Queensland and spans from early settlement to the rise of the mineral industry. The sample provides a very detailed history of Brown’s family and how his ancestor started with a one-acre dairy farm after returning from WWI. The family grew their property by purchasing an adjacent farm and they expanded to growing fruits and vegetables. It was like reading the Brown family tree in the first few pages of the family Bible. Brown reveals the uselessness and corruption within the Civil Service, compared with the integrity of people working in harsh environments. This memoir captures the heart and soul of human endurance and the fight against obstacles in the system. Brown grew up in Australia so he had first hand experience with the systemic problems in this country. I look forward to reading the remainder of the book which I expect to be more exciting than the sample. I have added the book to my to-read shelf.
