Sounds like an interesting book. As a reader with a very short attentions span, I just can't fully enjoy books that give long winded explanations and build-ups to an eventual climax. According to your description of this book, however, it seems just the opposite. I am, however, sensitive to the topics you mentioned, so I unfortunately will have to take your advice and keep away. The plot itself is a bit erratic, in my opinion, but I hope that reading the book entirely will put it in perspective, explaining both cause and effect of sudden drastic changes in Kate's seemingly perfect life.
