I like that Sheila's journey to being a champion helps teenagers adapt to social issues like teen pregnancy and racism. Thank you for your review.

Thanks for pointing out both the strong and weak parts of the book. The idea of an ambidextrous tennis player sounds fresh and interesting, and I like that it includes real tennis knowledge. But I can see how switching timelines and narrators—especially one from the womb—might make the story harder to follow.

A story of an unique talent of a young girl who was able to hit forehand from both left and right sides can be found in the book "Switch-Hitter, a Tennis Novel" by Barnaby Starr. The story follows Sheila's journey as she struggles to become the first ambidextrous amateur to be a Grand Slam champion.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

I'm always interested in a book about tennis, even if it's targeted at young adults. Due to the crucial role of mind state in an individual sport like tennis, I'm not surprised that this novel includes motivational messages that can appeal beyond tennis and beyond the world of sports. Thank you for your great review!
Ciao :)

Being ambidextrous can certainly be an advantage in sports. For tennis enthusiasts, this sounds like a delightful story.

I'd love to read about how Sheila in Barnaby Starr's "Switch-Hitter, a Tennis Novel" uses her ambidextrous ability in sports. Whenever I hear about ambidextrous people, it reminds me of V in BTS.

Follow Sheila's journey as she struggles to become the first ambidextrous Grand Slam champion in "Switch-Hitter, a Tennis Novel" by Barnaby Starr. The story demonstrate how much a positive attitude can impact our growth and success. While the book is about tennis, the featured motivational messages would appeal to any sport activity/academic achievement.

This novel speaks of the challenges and it's so thrilling and makes a reader to want to know how did Sheila overcome all. It's more life motivation novel. Am pretty sure readers will enjoy and love it :techie-studyingbrown:

Congrats on BOTD.
The young girl in Barnaby Starr's "Switch-Hitter, a Tennis Novel" lost her father, a prominent trainer, to death. For the purpose of teaching her granddaughter and rekindling her enthusiasm in tennis, Sheila's grandmother hired a Bahamian.

I am not sure whether I am going to read this book, but it sounds interesting. I hope that Nigel succeeded in convincing and motivating Sheila not to give up on her dream. It is wonderful to read about the power of positive associations in the book as well, especially the mentors who encourage Sheila. Many thanks for the review, @Diana Lowery.

The book sounds interesting being both entertaining when it concerns tennis and quite emotional and touching when it tells about teenage pregnancy and racism. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

For today's BOTD "Switch Hitter: A Tennis Novel", it is a captivating novel especially for those who love sport and learning about sports, particularly tennis. I found myself hopeful and rooting for the ambidextrous tennis amateur, Sheila, trying to help her out of her trauma just like her guardians and Nigel, the Bahamian tennis coach.
Samuel-to-be's narration is insightful and intriguing, had me smiling.
I would really love to read more of this book when I get the chance despite it's non-chronological order which will have you racking your brain to stay on track.

I think the book, from the sample I read, was well written but I due have to agree with the way the chapters are set up. It took me a couple of different sections to figure out he is talking from the quote's point of view. I didn't enjoy the writing style. I can understand the part of the talents dying with a father dying. That happened with poetry and my father passing away. So, when I have the funds,I believe I will be purchasing this book. Congratulations on the BOTD.
