Oh my gosh, I totally agree. I thought this book was almost comical in how bad it was. The portrayal of women wasn't great and it all seemed pretty contrived. I finished this book basically in order to feel like I could accurately discuss how bad it is.kjs237 wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 12:47 Back when everyone I knew was reading The Da Vinci Code, I decided I would see what all of the fuss was about. Unfortunately, Dan Brown's story telling left a lot to be desired for me. The hero solved every problem in a page and a half, and all of the outcomes were completely contrived and predictable. While the plot interested me, I could not bring myself to read any of his other novels. They are just too formula for me.

No, you are totally correct in your judgement. Unfortunately Green's books fall victim to this a lot, and it was an additional thing I forgot I disliked about his writing style, so thank you for bringing it up. There seemed to be several moments of filler words like "she/he said" throughout his books and that loses my interest quickly.strawberrysab wrote: ↑18 Apr 2018, 15:04 This might be an unpopular opinion, but I can't stand John Green. I remember skimming through one of his books and counting twelve "she/he said" in one page. I thought, an author that can't find an alternative to that word is not for me. Maybe I judged him too fast but it killed my will to read more from him.

I totally agree about Neil Gaiman. We read some of his work in high school and I found it a bit pretentious. I definitely was not enthralled by his writing. Then this year all of these sexual assault allegations came out and it feels like my dislike of him is more justified.HogSandwich wrote: ↑21 Feb 2018, 08:35 Neil Gaiman. It just doesn't click for meI keep on trying, it keeps leaving me cold.
Also I could rant about Ernest Cline forever. I don't feel bad about hating his stuff.

I've heard so much hype about him but I tried reading two of his books and I found them really boring. Not my kind of book.
