I am not a religious person and have zero interest in the subject, even though I also always doubted the official version behind Judas' actions, justifying them isn't how I prefer to pass my time, and so I will have to skip this book. Congratulations with BOTD all the same.

The questions of "What ifs" are not ones I'd like to ask about this topic, as there is no concrete proof. Evidence has been tampered with. There is also talk about everything being predestined. However, I'd like to see the point of view in "Misreading Judas" by Robert Wahler.

I would really love to know the author's perspective on Judas. I know that the bible, as we know it, is not complete, but I would love to know what this book Misreading Judas" by Robert Wahler, has to offer. Congratulations on the book of the day.

Robert Wahler’s Misreading Judas is a bold and unconventional exploration of one of the most controversial figures in Christian history—Judas Iscariot. Rather than accepting the traditional narrative of Judas as the betrayer of Jesus, Wahler offers a completely different interpretation grounded in Gnostic teachings and mystical spirituality.

At the heart of the book is the Gospel of Judas, a second-century Gnostic text that came to light in recent decades. Wahler argues that mainstream scholars have misunderstood the gospel by interpreting it through a literal and historical lens. Instead, he claims the gospel is meant to be read symbolically, with Judas representing the awakened spiritual seeker who helps fulfill a divine purpose—not through betrayal, but through inner transformation.

What makes the book particularly unique is its integration of Eastern mysticism, especially the teachings of Sant Mat, a spiritual philosophy centered around inner light, sound meditation, and self-realization. Wahler draws parallels between Gnostic symbolism and the inner journey described in Sant Mat, suggesting that true salvation lies not in external worship or doctrine, but in direct inner experience of the divine.

While the book is relatively short, it is dense with ideas and challenges the reader to rethink deeply ingrained beliefs. It is clear that Wahler has a personal conviction about the spiritual message he sees in the text, and that passion drives the narrative. However, readers unfamiliar with Gnosticism or mysticism may find some of the content abstract or difficult to follow.

Overall, Misreading Judas is a thought-provoking read for spiritual seekers, religious scholars, and anyone open to alternative theological interpretations. It doesn’t provide easy answers, but it raises important questions—and sometimes, that’s what good spiritual writing should do.

Misreading Judas: How Biblical Scholars Missed the Biggest Story of All Time by Robert Wahler challenges traditional interpretations of the Gospel of Judas. Wahler argues that Judas was not a betrayer but a Gnostic figure undergoing spiritual succession, reshaping the narrative of Jesus' sacrifice

This reading proposes a point of view of the gospel and of the biblical facts that can become very debatable because this book proposes the fact that Judas was not really a traitor and that the story of Jesus as told in the New Testament, now this is based on the gospel of Judas, a Gnostic gospel that according to the author was translated incorrectly without previous knowledge of Gnosticism.

The author challenges traditional beliefs of Christian followers. I believe to always have an open mind and listen to a different pov that differs from the general consensus and use my intellect to derive an opinion. Therefore, I am interested to read this book where Judas doesn't betray but self-sacrifices himself.

Robert Wahler's "Misreading Judas" shows a fascinating and provocative reinterpretation of the Gospel of Judas through the lens of Eastern mysticism, boldly asserting that Judas's act was a profound spiritual self-sacrifice for mastership succession, rather than a betrayal, radically reshaping our understanding of Jesus's role within a lineage of spiritual teachers.

This is an interesting subject. I do not much information on this teaching and on the scrolls that were found. However, given that there are a lot of teachings being pedaled currently, I will not concur with the author for now. I would love to read this book and hear more on this subject. Thanks for the nice review.

I have always known that there was more to the relationship between Judas and Jesus beyond the betrayal. However, I'll love to see that angle this author comes from.

The review left me conflicted. I want to give this book a chance, as I'm interested in learning about the author's findings to gain a deeper understanding of Gnostic Christianity. At the same time, I'm not into mysticism, and I have an issue with the author's conclusions. Thank you for the review.

Misreading Judas is actually unique in context and I would love to understand the Gnostic tradition called mastership succession.

From the review, the author of Misreading Judas has a totally different point of view of how the story of Judas unfolded and how it was recorded. Robert perspective is entirely dissimilar and something I've never come across.
