The Tunnel of Litora Falls by Suzanne A. Smith is a fantasy novel that connects two worlds separated by time. To protect their infant daughter, Nadia and Neree leave Kayla with her grandmother, Lori, to be raised by her. To keep Kayla safe, Lori agrees to never tell her about her parents, heritage, and destiny. Twenty years later, Kayla learns she has a greater destiny in life than she had ever imagined. Learning that her parents had not died but had willingly left her, Kayla knows she has two choices. She can either ruin her chance at having a family or be thankful for the family she never knew she had. Will Kayla choose her family or her friends, her job, and the home she has always known in Eureka Springs, Arkansas? Where was Kayla's family from? What were they protecting her from? Has the danger passed, or has it worsened?

I enjoyed reading the first book in this trilogy, as Suzanne Smith has done a fantastic job of providing the background for the remaining books in the series about the Litorans' destiny. Although there are many different characters throughout the storyline, each of them is fully developed with a clear purpose in the fight between good and evil. The author's descriptions of the evil spirits, fairies, Komodo dragons, gibbons, castles, etc., were easy to visualize. The author's inclusion of an illustration of a letter Trillian wrote made it appear authentic. I liked the many life lessons that are provided throughout the storyline. One example is that your actions control your destiny. The way the author tied the titles of the next two books in the series into this one was impressive.

This book had one negative aspect that prevented me from giving it a perfect score. The following text is a note to the author: "Here's the revised version of your content with corrections in punctuation, grammar, paragraphing, spelling, dialogue separation, and consistent use of tense, while keeping the original context intact," which should have been removed from the book. Other than this one flaw, this professionally edited book deserves 4 out of 5 stars because of the positive aspects discussed above. Also, there were only a few minor redundancies, discrepancies, and errors that did not impact my interest or enjoyment in the story, as they remained strong throughout my reading. There was no reason for me to deduct any more stars from my rating.

Anyone who enjoys fantasy books about romance, good versus evil, past and present times, dragons, fairies, creatures that are capable of transformation, mystery, and adventure will enjoy this book. There is no profanity, religious, or sexual content that would put any restrictions on this book. However, there is some graphic content that may be bothersome to younger or sensitive readers.

My curiosity is piqued to know why Nadia and Neree leave Kayla, as it would mean this was something that would have put her life at immense risk. What were they up against? The rhetorical questions also have further piqued my curiosity. Thank you for the informative and captivating review, @Nadia and Neree.

I am glad this author decided to give readers a proper character development unlike some authors that are sloppy when it comes to that. I believe the story is going to be an awesome read.
