Intercessor by John Robert Still is an intriguing mystery novel set in New Orleans with the threatening backdrop of an approaching hurricane. The story delves into both the spiritual and the supernatural, as well as faith, redemption, forgiveness, and love. It introduces several miraculous stories of the Virgin Mary that have occurred in various areas of the world, as well as in New Orleans.

Jim is in New Orleans trying to figure out where his life is heading after quitting his job as a lawyer in North Carolina. It is not his first visit to the city, so he has a few friends at a local cigar shop. As he contemplates his future, he is also looking for a distraction. He meets Myriam, a bartender and practicing Catholic, strong in her faith. She invites him to go with her to visit her family the following day. After leaving Myriam, he stops at another local tavern and begins talking to Erin and her friend. Turns out Erin is a prostitute with nefarious intentions. Jim manages to escape his initial encounter with Erin and her friends, thinking he dodged a bullet. Traveling with Myriam the following day, he meets several memorable people who educate Jim on various aspects of the Catholic religion that he had not learned growing up. As the hurricane bears down on the city, Jim is assaulted in the home where he is staying by Erin and her friends. They are determined to do him harm and begin to chase him throughout the city. Jim escapes them repeatedly with the help of various people along the way.

This story is very compelling and thought-provoking. Aspects of the Catholic faith are interspersed throughout the tale, emphasizing how many people struggle with their faith and beliefs. I truly enjoyed the book. The plot is action-packed, and the characters are convincing and relatable. The miracles of the Virgin Mary provide historical context that helps to convince the main character of a power greater than self. The thing I would have liked to see is more detail on the cult that Erin was a member. The danger associated with it would have made it more menacing and believable. The lack of grammatical errors is an added bonus.

I am rating Intercessor by John Robert Still 5 out of 5 stars. It was a truly engrossing story, but it has some educational benefits to anyone interested in religion, specifically Catholicism.

Christian drama with a splice of action and thriller, that's really hard to pull, but from the review the author did a good job making the novel very intriguing. I love the heavy faith related themes that show up throughout the novel. Awesome review.

This is really interesting, and I hope that Jim survived the whole ordeal. I am still wondering about the cause of the risk to his life, though. Though I would not be particularly interested in the apparent miracles, the book sounds really exciting. Thank you, @Suranna Wallace Michael, for the review.

The catholic faith is so mysterious. It being a theme in the book makes the book an intriguing read.
