I enjoyed reading this book, The Futility of Vengeance: A ‘Many Worlds’ Novel, by Adam Guest, and found myself unable to put it down. It was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Science fiction is my favorite genre, and it doesn't disappoint. I was at the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen to Gary next! What choices would he make? What would happen to him in this multiverse?

Each chapter in this book is about different realities/worlds he faces in his dreams. It’s about the choices he makes in each of those realities. Gary is lucid dreaming/sleeping, and the decisions he makes in his dreams, which he initially believes are harmless, end up affecting another Gary’s life. Yes, all this Quantum Physics stuff sounds a bit complicated, but the author does an amazing job of explaining this idea to the reader throughout the book.

At times, you aren’t sure whether Gary is completely crazy or if this makes sense or not. Throw in a murder and a love triangle (Sinead or Michelle?), and his whole world is quite complex. There are times when I felt a lot of pain for this character with all the things he was going through. Even the idea that this could happen was a horrifying thought. This book makes you think. The horror is that one minute you could just be living your best life, and then the next minute everything can be taken away from you, and it’s not even your fault. Just because of a lucid dream!

Do you blame the dreamer/the other Gary (you)? Was it that person’s fault if they thought it wasn’t even real? To them, it was only a dream, so no big deal. Maybe they were just as innocent as you. You even begin to question your reality. And if you seek revenge on the other you, will it hurt other people around you as well? After all, there are consequences to your actions.

This book twists and turns, and you never know which Gary’s life you are going to be living next or what will happen. I found it to be quite brilliant, and it exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy Sci-Fi. I rate it 4/5 since there were several grammatical errors. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!
