Poetry anyone?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

For classic poetry, it's hard to top Tennyson for me. "Ulysses" is my favorite. He puts an old man, past his prime, pitching one last adventure to ghosts, and he makes it heroic.

John Donne. His poetry is so raw and funny and forward. I love how he could sound like a pious angel in one poem and a perverted sinner in the next. You can feel his personality through his poetry. It makes me wish I could've met him.

I found this through searching for Richard Siken so I'm mostly just seconding the rec, he's amazing. I'm also fond of Dorothy Parker's light hearted style and Alix Olson and Andrea Gibson. Thanks for all the recs, I'm trying some of them out now.

Anybody here heard of the "Rattle Poetry Magazine?" Poets that are just breaking into the publishing world are exhibited on very reasonably numbered pages inside, and some of them are extremely creative. I'm not a huge fan of 21st century poetry, but here and there a gem pops up. I'm always looking for a good new poet, searching, searching, searching... but I go back often to my classics. I recently discovered the entire collection of Dylan Thomas and a large portion of Percy Bysshe Shelley's work on poemhunter.com. I've added them to my short list of absolute favorite poets, or, as I like to put it usually, true artists. Great stuff. Anyway... I hope everyone's enjoying all their reading. Anyone have a favorite short poem to post? I'm always up for suggestions! Ciao!

Poe and Frost are my special favorites. Gloria Anzaldua also has some extremely poignant work...and Martin Espada, especially his poem Alabanza.

Read it, write it, experience it. I love poetry to my core!!!

Maya Angelou is my all time favorite.
I like many others and pretty much will read any poem put in front of me. I'm quite fond of unknown poets, I follow many great writers blogs and on Twitter. I'm also enjoying the Spoken Word poets that are emerging as well. I don't like Slam Poetry as much, but I can still appreciate the value. :D

I'm a huge fan of Louise Gluck and Mary Oliver. I like a few of James Fenton's pieces, although usually only when I'm feeling a bit cynical. It may be a cliche, but Wordsworth is lovely too...

This is a newly published poem by a newly published poet... Opinions? I'm not sure what to think about it... I've posted it here "as is."

Lost

i walk through the alley
i walk hrough the garden
i walk through the valley
and i beg your pardon

wher am i?
an where are you?

i'm up in mountainsyour low in sand
i'm in England
and your in Japan

please help me find my way
i am lost
and where should i go
and where should i stay?

i am lost
i need help
please give me
a world map! ! !
