The Prince’s Ex by Nadene Seiters is a romantic fiction novel that tells the story of a woman who was previously in a relationship with the prince of a small country and is now single and feeling like she’ll never find the right man again. With the help (and sometime hindrance) of her best friend Tina, she starts dating different men with the hopes of finally getting over her royal ex and ends up finding Mr. Right in the most unexpected way.

Amelia met a man who she discovered was a prince and they ended up in a pretty serious relationship, which he ended a year after their first date. She was upset about the breakup, understandably, but found out via the newspaper that he had become engaged to another woman only 30 days after he had broken it off with Amelia. She agrees to a date with a man she’s never met that Tina has set up for her which doesn’t end well, and has a short relationship with another man, but the whole time she feels worthless since she couldn’t hold the attention of a prince. Amelia ends up accidentally finding love in a much unexpected place but it is challenged both by her insecurities and a strange turn of events.

I thought this book was pretty entertaining as far as a romantic novel goes. It was an easy read; it was well written and there were very few errors. The author did a good job of embracing the insecurities of the main character, Amelia, as well as developing good personalities for the other characters in the book. The story flowed pretty well and I felt that the attention to detail was appropriate at different points in the book; too much or too little was not a problem I encountered. Overall, I thought it was a good read and I didn’t feel bored or overwhelmed with the story at any point.

The only thing I didn’t care for in this book was the main character’s personality. She seemed like she was not a very smart person and wasn’t able to figure out even obvious things. She also was a strange judge of character and I thought she made some bad decisions. These dislikes about the story really have nothing to do with the quality of the book, it was just a turn off for me while reading it; I thought Amelia was quite ridiculous most of the time.

Overall, I would rate this book with 3 out of 4 stars. I didn’t give it a 4 only because I didn’t find it exceptional. It is your typical romance novel, with a pretty predictable flow of events, but it is well written and entertaining. I thought it was a great, quick summer read and I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys romantic stories and even those who don’t but are looking for something to catch their attention for a while.
