Crisis is the second book in a series by Rocky Grede based on a world where vampires rule the world and there are very few humans still in existence. In fact, it is believed that Jake, the character that these books follow, is the last one. Crisis picks up right as the last book, The Last Human, ends. Jake has to continue to try to fit into the world of vampires without becoming the next meal.

At the end of the last book, The Last Human, Jake and his friends are trying to find out why a stranger has come to town. By order of his adoptive father, Lexus, Jake is not to have anything to do with the stranger, but Jake does not listen to him. This stranger has caused some complications in the town and added to Jakes dilemma of fitting in around town. Jake and the Stranger seem to always be in the middle of all the commotion.

Lexus as mysteriously left town. Jake and his guards have no idea why, but this fact leaves the town without their leader. When the other two factions of vampires, those living to the north and south of Jake's city, want a meeting to discuss the stranger, Lexus' disappearance may cause even more problems for those left in charge in the place of Lexus.

In addition to the outside pressure the city is facing from the other factions and unknown creatures from the area known as the “Shadow Zone”, where vampires do not travel to, Jake's city is starting to have some conflict from within the vampire families in their own city. There are some vampire families that do not share Lexus' options on all matters and are looking to challenge him for leadership of the city.

There are a lot of rumors floating around the city. Was there a breach of the city walls? Who is this stranger and why are the other factions of vampires so interested in him? Where is Lexus and why is he trying to protect this stranger? These are some of the questions that Jake and his guards and friend want to find out. Just when you think you have these questions figured out, a twist is thrown and you are in shock.

Overall I have to give this book a 3 out of 4. Again, It is was a very fast read, with it only being about 80 pages. It was a nice continuation of the first book. You get to know the characters a little bit more and find out more the back story of the city. I look forward to the rest of the series to see how all the drama will play out. Good book for get young people reading!
