Oh I loved that book! Had some laugh out loud momentsFran wrote:Right now believe it or not I'm reading "No! I don't want to join a bookclub" by Virginia Ironside.

I have just finished "The Fortune Teller's Daughter" by Lila Shaara ... kept me enthralled from the first page to the last.
Just begun "Bruno, Chief of Police" by Martin Walker. So far so good. A slice of French village life.
Have been reading on and off "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson ... just can't get into it and yet keep going back ...

right now i'm reading The Diary of Anne Frank as an in-between-books-book. it's a simple read and doesn't take much to follow so it's just a few pages here and there until i get another one.
Just finished reading The Great Gatsby. Personally, i did not like it. Enjoy it? Yes. Like it? No. I know most people would say i just didn't get it. It was just so anti-climatic. Even the tense scenes were subpar for me. I can only remember one time feeling any emotion reading the book. I believe there are so many facets and personalities to the characters that you can't pigeonhole it as most people do and try to interpret it as a "be happy with what you have" kind of book. I'm rambling and sure this isn't where this goes so i'll just stop here......
probably not the best first impression

Don't worry about not liking books you read. We all have different opinions. I haven't read The Great Gatsby in about 15 years, but I don't remember really liking it at all. Just because it's labeled a classic doesn't mean that you're required to like it.cody00 wrote:Just finished reading The Great Gatsby. Personally, i did not like it. Enjoy it? Yes. Like it? The book is heavy on emotion and shows this relationship that is completely complex. The lead characters are two gay vampire boys and one is in denial about his sexuality. It's sexy- yet dark, also funny at times, it's a rollercoaster ride of emotions. This book could be loved by teens and adults. Give it a read, the author is new and independent. The website for the author is simply called shareegreene, so visit it and get a copy of this book. Be open minded and you will be truly surprised at the depth to this book.

Oh yay...I debated about whether or not to read this after I read The Dante Club, but since you give it a glowing recommendation, I'm going to pick it up!Faulknerfan wrote:Finishing The Last Dickens by Matthew Pearl. All I can say is "wow." This is my first Pearl book and am I impressed. The book is thoroughly engrossing and has whetted my appetite for more Dickens. Surprisingly clean - violence as this is a mystery - but nothing gratuitous and nominal offensive language. This is a gem.
You might like The Dante Club--I enjoyed it.

Just finished 'The Great Gatsby' for fun, and 'The Little Book Of Thrift' to learn from.
