Halfway through "The Lost Symbol" makes me sad that it is clearly written to be a movie.

I finished it last night and I hate to say it but.......it was AWFUL! This book was such a disappointment. The last 100 pages ruined the whole thing.....I was a huge Dan Brown fan but this book was terrible.

The Siege by Stephen White. I have read most of his books and they are fun, but in this I can see that he has grown as a writer, he is stretching. That is always enticing. I haven't finished the book yet, but I am enjoying it.

I agree-the last 100 pages of THE LOST SYMBOL did ruin it-before that I found much of it very similar to pther Dan Brown-couldn't put it down while I was reading it.

I am just about to start Jeckll and Hyde.

I have just read The Help by Kathryn Stockett, which is the best book I have read in years. The characters were so real they seemed like friends. The voices were so true it was hard to believe they were fictional. When I came to the end I was sad that it was over and I knew that the story and its message would stick with me for a long time.

The Help is about a young white woman in the early 1960s in Mississippi who becomes interested in the plight of the black ladies' maids that every family has working for them. She writes their stories about mistreatment, abuse and heartbreaks of working in white families' homes, all just before the Civil Rights revolution.

This is a book about love and suffering, hatred and faith, fear and courage. It is about women of strength and dignity who carry on and manage to care about others despite an unjust system. It is a beautiful book, unforgettable in many ways. It is touching, thought-provoking, humorous and compelling.

Just finished The Sirens of Bagdad ... superb read. I'm a big fan of Yasmina Khadra and I loved both his other books "The Swallows of Kabul" & "The Attack".
I'm about to start Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters
