Mine are all sorted by series and size of the book. And I place them vertically on my shelf.

My textbooks for the masters course I am doing are place horizontally because who really cares how they look. I just pile them high ontop of one another to create space. :|

But my novels... I placed them prettily on my shelf in a vertical ordering by type of book and series number of that book :D

Vertical, and organized alphabetically by author last name, and then again alphabetically by series/title.

I place mine vertically it looks better and it is a lot easier to put a book back in it's place when I am finished. I imagine horizontal stacking would save on space but I think it would be harder to keep organized.

Vertically and alphabetically by author but if I have a tall book, it goes on a bigger shelf, regardless of the author's name.

Mine are vertical but I have a few books that are horizontal on top of my vertical books because I ran out of room on my book shelf :(0

Mine are always vertical, and I arrange them by size. Tallest on the left, down to shortest on the right! :)

Vertically! I didn't realize people put their books horizontally on their bookshelves. Doesn't that take up more space?

Vertically, and then if I run out of space I then put my books horizontally on top of them.

As of right now, a lot of my books are placed vertically and then horizontally on top of those vertical books. Other than that when I have a LOT of books I place them horizontally to fit them all on my shelf.

My books are arranged mostly vertically except for the really big books that don't fit on the shelves standing up. The top shelve of my bookcase contains classic works arranged alphabetically by title. Followed by fiction books also arranged alphabetically, and ending with non-fiction books. Then there is also a shelve above my bed which contains only my favorite books. :)
