Official Review: Fallen

Fallen written by Lauren Kate is a very agreeable read for any fans of the young adult, paranormal loving genre. The first few pages are gripping and intriguing set far in the past only to flash forward in the first chapter to Present day. Anyone who is looking for a summer paranormal romance should check out at least this book from the series from their local library or download it on their e-reader.

Lucinda Price has just started at Sword & Cross boarding school, a reform school for delinquents who may just be more trouble than the average outcast. On her first day she encounters her newest strange best friend Arianne, and her attention is immediately captivated by the handsome and strangely familiar Daniel Grigori. She just can't get over the feeling that somethings up with that guy and she's destined to figure out just exactly why he's so damn familiar to her. Throughout the book she goes through common teen issues, (Grigori isn't the only guy who has her attention) and the less common, (perhaps a war of biblical proportions is coming?)

What's great about this book is that it is a page turner. The way the characters develop really keeps you interested in their lives and every question that Lucinda has you are probably already desperate to find the answer out yourself. It's compelling and romantic but not in an overwhelming way, and there aren't really that many graphic scenes. It has a few allusions to the bible but not so much that you are turned off by an inherit message (if there is one) to go to church.

What could have been better about this book would be the main characters confidence in herself. It seems yet again in young adult fiction we find ourselves with a "heroine" who just isn't quite. Always second guessing herself and putting herself in situations (even self admittedly) we are left with a main character that just doesn't seem to have her head on straight. Hopefully going forward in the series she builds confidence and becomes less dependent on her male counterpart (Griggori) who is constantly (yawn) saving her day.

If you have a few days, need a good beach read, and like paranormal fiction with a little bit of romance, I would recommend this book for you. If you're looking for something meaningful to change your life or something deeply impressionable, you might want to pick something else up. I don't know if i'll check out the next book in the series, and if i do if it'll change my perspective on Fallen but for now i'm grateful for having read the book, it was fun and i would recommend this book to anyone who can check it out from their local library.

Thanks for the review. Probably not a book I will check out myself though it sounds like it may have merit.
What do mean when you say graphic? As in steamy sex, or just a little pinch and tickle? That makes a big difference to me as to whether I would read it. Also, the biblical references, are they more along the lines of the Bible as history or do they look to convert? I'm curious.

Thanks so much for reading my review! As far as graphic scenes go it's definitely not sex related it's more in the way characters are killed off. For the biblical references they look convert to me but I was raised agnostic so I apologize in that i can't be more specific. Mostly the allusions are lightly peppered in to lead up to a dramatic reveal which is what makes this book a series instead of just a novel. If you ever do end up checking it out let me know what you think, i would love to hear someone else's opinion on it.

I have also read this book and I have to say that your review is spot on. The story flows well but it's the same old same old and I feel that it's time for our young readers to have a different point of view to work with.
Do you feel as though the other books in the series will disappoint or should we try to see if they may get better as the story progresses?

I was so excited to see that someone had reviewed this book. my sister got it for me for Christmas a few years back and when I first saw the cover I knew it was similar to the types of books I enjoyed reading. You are definitely accurate in the damsel in distress complex that this book has Lucinda is capable of so much but i feel her potential is being a little wasted. Maybe the rest of the books in the series are better.

I've read the first 3 books a while back and totally forgot about the fourth. I've finished reading it about a week ago and I thought it was worth reading them all. They are what I would call a light read however the last one of the series does come with a twist I did not see coming. I will not spoil it for you!

The one good thing about the book is that its quite gipping and one wants to find out what happens next. But I think I'm done with the portrayal of the female protagonist as a confused, underconfident damsel-in-distress. I think its time female authors add more substance to their female protagonists, especially now in the 21st century when things are finally rolling for women.

Fallen was a pretty good book. It had a great story plot and got to the point. If you llike reading books about romance and angels, than you will enjoy this great read!

I absolutely loved this series! So good! Definitely didn't expect the ending!! I like how it kept you guessing throughout the series! I also love the story behind it about fallen angels!
