Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Post by kennaloulou »

Katy has always been more of an introvert, interesting herself mostly in her books, and when she has finished reading them, reviewing them on her blog. She was raised in Florida, but because of a tragic incident that had befallen her family, her mother ends up working double time and has moved herself and her only child, Katy, to a small town in West Virginia.

Katy, at first, is not that excited about her new life. To her, West Virginia seems small and uneventful, a place that lacks the interest and big town that she wants. She maintains these bitter thoughts until she sees her new neighbor. It doesn't take that long for Katy to realize that he has to be the hottest guy she has ever seen in her whole life-including the hot cover models on her books. She held this high opinion of him for about two seconds before Daemon opened his mouth.

Turns out Daemon is really a jerk, and has nothing nice to say to Katy even when she is only asking for directions to the nearest shop. He directs her away disinterestedly, telling her that it is never a good time for her to stop by at his house. She leaves, feeling upset and angry at his bad attitude.

What Katy does not know is that Daemon’s sister, Dee, is a very nice girl who makes a run to the grocery store just to meet Katy and greet her enthusiastically. Dee only wants a friend who will not run away from her, and Katy is glad to have a friendship with Dee even though her brother had become Katy’s worst enemy. Katy tries to avoid Daemon most of the time, and Katy and Dee enjoy their seemingly carefree friendship...but then the dark secret of Daemon and Dee’s true identity is revealed.

Oh, what can I say?! I LOVED this book! I read the whole thing within a day, not being able to stop, and when I had too, I felt detached in that sort of way that only happens when your book really gets to you. To be honest, I think that it may have been the way that Daemon made me keep wanting to read, because his personality was so rude that I knew there had to be some sort of motivations behind his behaviors. That, or he was simply being rude for no good reason and was going to loosen up someday. Though he ticked me off, I couldn't help but fall for his strange charms and good looks a little bit. He gets better through out the book, and though the major conflict between him and Katy settles down, I couldn't stop reading! The romance becomes a bit more distinct near the end, though it seems that they are both a bit attracted to each other in the beginning of the book. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes a good romance, fantasy, and very interesting characters. I know it sounds a bit cliche, but trust me, it's a good read. :D

This was such a good novel. When I saw the cover.. I wasn't really attracted to it. I wanted to give it a try and now I am just stuck with the series. I finish Obsidian and Onyx in a day. I wanted to continue with Opal but I had to stop for awhile! It is a fun read...
and who knew Aliens could be Smoking HOT. HAHAHAHA

Have to agree with everyone who loved the series, it was definitely something amazing. While the quick transition from Daemon's "Stay away from us" attitude to an almost obsessive, protective side nearly gave me whiplash, I couldn't help but enjoy the way that Katy and him interacted with each other. It was most certainly not "insta-love", and even when they do get together there are still arguments and hurt feelings, which only makes it easier for the audience to relate to them since the imperfections make them so believable. Also: Blake. Can't decide if I like him or hate him, his character just has so many facets and motivations. These books really give the reader a look into why the "bad guys" do what they do, which is definitely a plus for me.

I have to agree, this book is soooo good that I reread it multiple times. Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing is seriously out of this world! LOOL (Get it? Out of this world? It's a book on aliens?) The entire novel is in the perspective of Katy Swartz, the new girl in town. And I honestly love her! I can really relate to this character on such a level! She's a mega reader, writes blogs much like myself. Most importantly she demonstrates a logic to which I can totally understand. Her reactions to nearly everything is relatable, more so because she's the human in this mysterious town full of aliens.

And there is Daemon Black, Katy's love interest. Dear Lord, the sexual tension in the air is so thick! These two are literally perfect for each other, and are the perfect bickering couple. Throughout the entire novel, the desire is in the air and so is the denial. And Daemon, oh dear Daemon will forever be on my list of 'World's Best Fictional Boyfriends". He is just so perfect, caring and badass. His sweet protective nature towards his sister Dee is so cute and admirable, while his witty and funny comebacks are sexy as hell. His gorgeous green alluring green eyes, badass personality and hidden soft side just seals the deal. He's the full package. If not for the amazing writing and page turning plot, you should defiantly read this book for Daemon Black.

Anyways, those are the two main characters and some insight of this amazing novel! I totally recommend it and pressure you to read it! Give in!!! Kidding! But seriously check this book out, I can guarantee that you will not put it down until you have read the last sentence! Overall, this novel is a page turning, edge of the seat reading, jaw dropping and nail bitting read!
