I am a huge Anita Blake fan. I love how it is so outside the box on the romance side, yet still full of action. While there is a lot of sex, there is also a lot of emotion. Throughout history men have collected women, I think it is nice to see a woman collecting men.

Any book with Ted/Edward and Olaf!
I love this series and Merry.
The two series have character dopplegangers. Am I the only one to habe noticed this?
Anyway...favorite???
I'd have to agree with some people up there and say Obsidian Butterfly.

If you're more a fan of erotic romance have you tried Nalini Singh?
She has two series that I can't get enough of.

I'm looking forward to the next Anita book and hoping for some Olaf time...I've missed him.
Is it weird to love a fictional serial killer this much?

I think my favorite Anita book was Circus of the Damned. I think the earlier books were much meatier story-wise than the most recent books. I've read the whole series multiple times, and think the first 6 or so are the best.

I don't think I have a favorite book in this series I have read them all at least twice and love them all. LOL but if I had to choose I would have to go with The Harlequin. Can't wait til Jason comes out in Dec.

I LOVED the Anita Blake books. She was hands-down my favorite fictional character. I loved the build-up between her and Jean-Claude and then her and Richard. However, after a while, she was just...sleeping with everyone. I ALSO agree that the last book with a plot was Obsidian Butterfly. It also happens to be one of my favorites. As a lover of this series (my favorite series, actually) I really enjoyed experiencing the growth and change in the relationship between Anita and Edward. I love that they don't want to sleep with each other and that it is strictly business. Also that they respect each other enough to trust their lives to each other. I am sad to say that the last book I attempted to read was Bullet and I couldn't get through it. It seemed to slowly be developing into Anita and Jean-Claude preparing to take on the Council. An intriguing idea, no doubt. But my interest was quickly squelched by yet another unnecessary sex scene. That is the primary difference, to me, between the first couple of books and the later books. In the beginning books, the sex scenes had meaning. There was a joining between two characters for a purpose such as growth in their relationship, to increase stability, to garner control. Later ... it just was about the sex. The book Micah literally didn't even have a plot. I loved Anita Blake for her strength, her intelligence, her loyalty and her commitment to doing right (hero, right?) But she eventually just basically slept with everyone...for lack of self-control. So different from the character from which she originated. Just so disappointing. I still recommend the books to friends, because I love them. But I am always careful to advise that I stopped reading them because of their descent into mindless smut. The Merry Gentry books are worse.

It's so hard to choose! I really enjoyed Bloody Bones though. And Narcissus In Chains was the first one that I had ever read and is still one of my favorites.

I enjoyed the first 10 or so books- but after that the story/plot got lost in all the sex- don't get me wrong I appreciate a good sex scene as much as the next person-but it got be a touch to much for me.

The Anita Blake books are amazing. The first three however are my favorite. After that they just have to much sex. Funny to say to much sex, but it's as if the author became a horny teenage boy. The books have gotten to the point of feeling the need to just skip the sex scenes. If you have seen one you have seen them all kinda feeling.

Obsidian Butterfly is by far my favorite book! I love Anita's world; it is so fascinating to imagine a world where everyone knows about paranormal creatures. Hamilton does an excellent job of depicting real world problems into society, such as the vampires thirsting for both blood and religion and the were-animals hiding their identity for fear of discrimination. Anita is such a strong character, it's difficult to remember she's only human at times (well, in the first few books anyway).

I think Obsidian Butterfly is a wonderful example of human cunning and determination. Even though the supernatural is involved, there's also a lot of human conflict which add some sense or reality into this book. Hamilton reminds us that some things we need to be afraid of breath air and die by bullet wounds.

My favorite Anita Blake book is the 6th book in the series - The Killing Dance. I read all of the books until Flirt and then the sex stuff just got out of hand. Totally ridiculous in my opinion.
