How Closely Do You Follow Authors?

Post by Gravy »

I'm just curious.
I have quite a few authors I try to keep up with. What they're writing. What series/books they've got scheduled.
But a few authors I keep closer watch on.
Some I read their blogs.

What is everyone elses opinions on this?
Do you follow any authors closely? If so, why?

I follow quite a few authors. For instance, I follow Neil Gaiman almost religiously! Aside from keeping up with what books and projects he's working on, I love following him on social media since he regularly interacts with and updates his readers. There's a few other authors I follow regularly, too. Stephen King and Jim Butcher come to mind since they publish regularly.

I like to follow my favorite authors closely. From about 10 feet away. While they are unaware of me. I'm just joking.:D I try to be up to date on what books they are going to have coming out next.

Hahaha! You got to the joke before I could! Nice! 8)

I used to follow some authors (JK Rowling specifically) when waiting for certain books to come out. But I haven't really followed authors recently. With Goodreads/Twitter/blogs, it's easier to follow people these days, but I feel like a lot of the excitement is gone now that there are SO MANY authors being published constantly.

Yeah.
I follow some blogs and stuff. I try to keep up with some more than others.
There's a writing advice blog that I like, written by authors.
One author in particular I can't get enough of though. I can't read her blog without laughing.
Even when she's on a rant because of some injustice it's a funny rant.
I love to laugh

I also haunt the book blogs.

And I very much liked that joke

I just follow authors on Goodreads and read some book blogs to keep abreast of coming books.

I follow a few favourites on FB and get their newsletters. Sometimes I see a picture of them having fun and I want to yell 'Get back to the computer! I need to know what happens next'. :-)

There is one author that I follow on goodreads, and she is ALWAYS posting blogs constantly. I seriously think she sits at her computer all day and just writes blogs. I have no idea how in the world she even has time to write books, seriously. But the sad thing is... I'm not even sure that people are reading her blogs. She posts too many for anyone to keep up.

Haha... sure. It's Nancy Werlin. I recommend her book "Are you Alone on Purpose?" I read it when I was like, 16 and had just moved to a new town and just transferred to a new high school and had no friends. It was kind of appropriate at the time, but I pretty much fell in love with her and read everything of hers since then.

I stopped reading her blogs ages ago, but many of them are actually comics documenting real events of her life, and I've always wondered if she draws them herself. They're pretty good, but I just can't keep up. She numbers all the posts and labels them really well though, so if I ever have a million hours of free time, I might try to read some of them. 8)

I don't usually follow authors too closely, unless I am aware that they have a social media that they use constantly. For example, one of my favorite authors, Barry Lyga, he has a Tumblr, and I use Tumblr a lot, so I followed him. I know get a lot of updates about what he's currently working on, and what's he's just doing in his daily life, which I think is cool.

I've never had any injunctions, but I do follow J.K. Rowling pretty closely. I'm rather obsessed, actually. Quite recently I've been thinking of getting psychiatric help :) Seriously, though, I tend to follow her a lot. But it's easy because she hasn't written very much! :D

I thought I needed psychiatric help as well when I used to follow her, waiting for the next HP books to come out. But since those finished, I weaned myself away from her and found other things to obsess about. 8)
