The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth Review *SPOILERS*

Post by emilyrobinsonbooks »

(NOTE: I WRITE A LOT IN MY "SHORT" REVIEWS AS WELL AS MY "LONG" REVIEWS, SO SORRY FOR THE LENGTH. IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING LONG "SHORT" REVIEWS, THEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. THANK YOU.)

In Veronica Roth’s Divergent Trilogy, protagonist Beatrice (Tris) Prior goes through life changing circumstances in which she has to make decisions that could lead to many different situations. Roth set this story in a dystopian Chicago world where, when you are sixteen, you have to choose which of the five faction you belong in. The factions are Erudite, the intelligent, Amity, the peaceful, Abnegation, the selfless, Candor, the honest, and Dauntless, the brave. There is also a section called factionless, whereas you don’t belong in any of the factions.

The story starts with Beatrice and Caleb, Beatrice’s brother, getting ready to have their aptitude tests taken. When Beatrice finds out that she got more than one result, which is very rare, she has to choose which of the three of her resulted factions she wants to join. Her results were Abnegation, Dauntless, and Erudite. Throughout all three books, Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant, Tris, the name she decides to have after switching factions, and her new friends, including Christina, Will, and Al, go through many things, including digging into the faction history to find out all of the truth about the faction system.

When Tris gets to Dauntless, she is immediately introduced to her initiate instructor Four. She later finds out many hidden things about him that nobody else knows, including that his real name is Tobias Eaton, he was also from Abnegation, and that his father was Marcus Eaton. Tris and Four slowly fall in love and she eventually finds out that he is also Divergent, meaning that he, too, has more than one resulted faction from his aptitude test. He also finds out many things about her, too. Some that even she didn't know.

I would give the Divergent Series a 4 out of 5 stars. I definitely think that if you haven’t read it, then you certainly should. I found it a very quick and easy read, which we all know that we need every once in a while. If anything, it was a little too easy to read, and I found myself speeding through it a lot quicker than I usually read, which isn't slow, but it isn't super fast, either. I hope that Veronica Roth continues her amazing writing skills and writes more Young-Adult, Dystopian, Fiction novels in the future, because I would definitely read them.
