If you liked The Odyssey, you should give The Iliad a shot. And if you have, there's always The Aenaid.

I was a English major in college and loved both the Illiad and the Odyssey. I have always loved Greek Mythology (both in books and movies) I also love books set in Ancient Egypt.

The Odyssey is one of the first 'action' books I read and I loved it. The Iliad was the second. My dad was in college when I was in Junior High and High School and he had to read it for a class. I saw it at home and picked it up to read when he finished and fell in love with it. The action, mythology, drama, and poetry of it is amazing.

I much enjoyed the Odyssey as a kid, at that time I read every book of its type. My younger brother is half Greek and somehow that made me want to learn all about Greek Mythology.

I enjoyed reading the Odyssey, but perhaps the experience was hindered by having to do in depth analysis for every chapter in school. Talking about wood for 2 chapters was excessive.

Did anyone find it overly harsh that Odysseus killed all the suitors including the one that went on his knees and begged to be spared?

Or that it was epecially overly harsh that he then killed/hung all the women servants that had slept with the suitors?

Deffinitely a culture/ time clash between now and ancient Greece there I think!

I remember when we read The Odyssey in school. I really enjoyed it, I think more so because I really love Greek mythology.

I love Homer. There's nothing like read the Odyssey or The Iliad whilst lying on a beach in Kefalonia, Greece thinking wow I'm sitting under the same sky as where this stuff apparently happened.

I read prose versions of "The Odyssey" before reading the real version, although I soon learned that the prose versions couldn't capture the beauty of the epic poetry.

Years ago I bought a beautiful set containing both the Iliad and Odyssey and still Have not managed to start them. The only bits I've read I read in college.

I absolutely love The Odyssey and The Iliad - particularly in teaching. I feel that the Percy Jackson novels by young adult writer Rick Riordan have rebirthed a love for Greek Mythology. It's fascinating to see people making connections from a classic book like The Odyssey and actually developing an interest in the story. I personally will always hold this as one of my favorites.

I love this book. It is one of my top 5 favorites. It has adventure, heart and a mere mortal taking on gods. If I had to go into battle I would definitely want Odysseus on my team.
