I loved books since way before I knew how to read. I honestly can't remember a time when I was without books--fiction, for the most part. One of my earliest memories is cuddling in bed with my mother while she read to me. This would have been in the late forties (I was born in 1946) or very early fifties (I entered first grade in 1952--no kindergarten in our school at that time). My mother told me I used to make up stories based on the pictures in books. I don't remember that at all, so I guess I was pretty young. Once I learned to read, the world of books was wide open to me and my reading level was always ahead of the grade I was in. (Wish I could have done that well in math!)

My early immersion in books had a lot to do with my being an only child at the time (my half-brother was born when I was 19) and living in the country. I often had to entertain myself. And we didn't get a television until I was 13. Add to that a family that valued books. We were really poor, but there were always books in the house. I usually got one or more books at Christmas or for birthdays, and of course, there was the library. Now we have two HDTVs, which I love, but I still read every day. Nothing can take the place of a good book!

I was 6 or 7 when i really got hooked into reading, but until then i loved being read to. we used to be read one chapter a day from books such as The Witches by Roald Dahl while we were eating our lunch and that was always the part of the day i looked forward to. The first book i remember reading and loving is the Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I got it as a Birthday gift and could not put it down. i reread it at least three times while waiting for our next library trip

I remember going to the library when I was about four or five. I wanted to get out as many books as possible and we always reached the upper limit on the number of books we could take out at a time. By age eight, for sure, I was so embroiled in my love of books. It was then that I remember reading my first chapter book (though I'm certain that I had read chapter books before then). It started with Little House on the Prairie and now I love reading just about anything I can get my hands on!

i probably found my love for reading in kindergarten. From then on, everyday when I came home from school I would procrastinate my homework so I could read for hours.

I enjoyed books before I could actually read. Because my grandmother was my main caretaker from birth to about 4, and she had a hip removed before my birth at that time they did not do replacements (at least she did not have one), she was lame so much of our day was doing sedentary activities, reading, painting, quiet play I just naturally turned to reading. My brother reminds, he is 5 years younger than I, of the many summers where because mom & dad worked I DRUG him to the library twice a week. At the time he hated it but now he is grateful for his enjoyment of reading also. I can't remember a time I did not have at least one book being read at any time.

12 or 13. I am so thankful for the insight reading brought into my life as an awkward teenager.

As soon as I learned to read. Probably like 7? I remember being so excited to get a book from the school library. I also got a free book every year from a program at school, and those were look gold to me!

Born. Just kidding, but that's probably about right. I have always been reading. It's one of my favorite things.

I think I was a "late-bloomer" because it wasn't until after high school and I wasn't forced to read for assignments anymore that I realized I love reading. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't crack open at least one book. I'm always reading something! LOL Anyway, I've actually influenced a couple of my family members to starting reading more as well. It's nice to be able to discuss books among family.

Five or six or younger when I got hooked on Manga. For novels, I'd say when I was thirteen years old. I was too hooked on Manga to try out any other kinds of books but I couldn't buy any more books so I went to my sister's bookshelf, pulled out the most appealing and developed a love for novels from that day on.

I discovered my love of books before I started kindergarten. On the first day of kindergarten, my mother promised me we would go to the library after school and I could get my own library card. I learned to read before kindergarten, so get my own library card was a real treat.
