Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
*In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees. I take a step toward him, open my mouth to call his name, only I don't know it. Then he starts to turn. That's when the vision leaves me. I blink, and it's gone.
Clara is part-angel. Through terrifying visions of a forest fire she is shone her purpose: to save a beautiful, unknown boy. When she finds Christian, the boy from her visions, he's everything she could wish for. But Clara discovers there's a darker side to her purpose. And if Christian is so perfect, why does she have feelings for someone else?
I was hesitant at first about reading Unearthly. The blurb did intruige me but it didn't quite grab me and force me to read it. After a few months of coxing I finally gave in and bought it.
I'm not going to say I regretted it because I honestly didn't but there was quite a few things with this book that put me off a bit.
However, saying that, this book did get me addicted and I found myself up until three in the morning trying to find out what would happen next.
Clara isn't the prettiest angel around but her hair is gorgeous.
I found that Clara got on my nerves quite a bit because she seemed to whiney over Christian. That girl was like a love-sick puppy and it wasn't attractive, at all!
There was something about Tucker that pulled at me like a magnet and before I knew it I was swooning over him.
The summer scene between Clara and Tucker was beautiful and one of the best moments out of the whole book. Every time I feel slightly down and need some sickly-sweet love spell to cheer me up I instantly pick up Unearthly and get reading.
Cynthia Hand wrote this book fantastically seeing as most authors find it hard to describe angels or get into mythical action mode but Cynthia Hand done it with ease. There was something about the way she wrote though that made it feel like she was trying to hard at a captivating outcome or a mesmerising romance that went a little over the top.
All in all I say she done good.
I'd recommend this to young readers who are in need of some mythical/fantasy action with a flare of romance to brighten up their day.*
