This novella should come with a warning: Contents Are Hot.

Joking aside, though, this novella makes no secret of the fact that it is erotica rather than more traditional romance. Within a few pages of the opening, the protagonist has a very vivid sex dream. Throughout the rest of the novella, the various characters are just as interested in getting into bed with each other as they are about getting business work done (at least, the business is important for two of the characters, which I’ll get into later). While this does provide for some excellently written sex, of which there is more than enough to satisfy, I couldn’t help wishing for a slightly stronger plot, and so this novella gets 3 out of 4 stars rather than a full 4 out of 4.

As with so many romantic and erotic stories, this novella has a love triangle. In this case, the center of the triangle is Erika Anderson, who works for an advertising firm that has just set up a proposal for a company called Sensual You which, unbeknownst to her, is owned by one corner of the love triangle, billionaire Donte Carrera. Donte also happens to be the first man Erika ever slept with, and he is also still very attracted to her, even though he’s been seeing multiple other women. The other corner of the triangle is Fernando Vega, who taught Erika how to dance back in college and is the brother of her friend and coworker, Renee. The attractions between both Erika and Donte and Erika and Fernando are intense, and the author doesn’t make it obvious which man Erika will choose until she has already chosen.

There were a few things that put me off from the novella, but since I know they are off-putting largely due to my own tastes in this genre, I won’t take this book too much to task for them. Still, I feel as though I ought to mention them, since if any of these are deal-breakers for you, I’d advise giving this novella a pass. There are a few references to Erika being “trained” by whichever lover she has at the time, and while Donte never reaches the point of violence, there is mention of him being moody and a bit controlling.

The one major problem I did have with this novella was that it felt incomplete. There is a part two coming for Masked Obsession, and there was something of a resolution to part one, but I couldn’t help feeling unsatisfied even by that, as though the story had been lopped off in the middle. I would have much preferred to be able to read the whole story, beginning to end.
