Mini-Review- Counted Worthy by Leah E. Good

Post by amandabeguerie »

I read and re-read Counted Worthy by Leah E. Good about a month ago. Hearing or saying the title gives me slight shivers. It amazes me still how a YA fiction novel can have such an impact on oneself! Now, let me explain the book and my thoughts.

Heather Stone lives in the year 2218, in dystopian America. Christianity (and any religion for that matter) has been outlawed and the government is strictly fascist. Heather, her father Ray, her best friend Bryce, and some other key people in her life are (underground) Christians and very strong in their faith. Heather has a job at a government book sorting center and as religious books (especially Christian books) are outlawed, she smuggles a Bible home to prevent it from being burned. Little does she know, the Bible has a tracking device inside it which is traced back to her house and her father is arrested. Her endeavor throughout the book is to rescue her persecuted father and the other unjustly persecuted Christians. She knows that the penalty for being caught as a Christian is death, that is if the person refuses to renounce their faith (which Heather and Ray know has never been an option). She hates to think of losing her father after her mother has already been executed for distributing Bibles.

This book is deeply riveting and keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire time. It changed my perspective on a lot of things. Even if you are not a Christian, you will still enjoy it. I cried twice, both times I read it. Though I knew what would happen. I balled, I got butterflies, I laughed, I hyperventilated...yeah, I felt it all. It was amazing. Read it! You can get a copy on Amazon.
