And Anne Rice. John Grisham. Basically the best selling authors we all know.
They're just not for me.
I have to second that on Anne Rice, my sister-in-law likes her and I have tried. I just could not get into her stories. Maybe I'll try to read one of her books again but I doubt I could finish it.

I know people will hate me for this but:
- Stephenie Meyer
- E. L. James
- Stephen King
- Sylvia Day

And that's all I remember for now.

You are entitled to your opinion so no one should hate you for it. Hahaha but I kind of have to agree except for Stephen King. Even though I love all of them it's still talked circulated way to much.

James Patterson.... his books are good but to me not all of his books are worthy of the bestseller list nor of all the attention he seems to get. And personally, I think he should never be a children or teen book writer.... those books that he's written are lame.

I liked many of the older Stephen King books but not the more recent ones. I enjoyed the older Anne Rice but nothing written more recently. Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series started out well and then fell apart. Sometimes I think it's not that they're bad writers exactly but they stop being as creative because they know their books will sell or because their publisher expects the books in a certain series and by a certain deadline. Then quality drops.

I agree with you. It seems like the books are put out just to make money to be honest.

I agree with Stephen King. Misery, however, is thematically interesting and not just about blood and guts, so that one I think is worth a read. Not canonical, but more complex than his other works. As for E.L. James, I won't even attempt to defend that. Awful, awful, awful. Same with Stephen Meyer. And I honestly don't know who Sylvia Day is :)

Sorry but I totally disagree. I've read some really good books that were written by first-time authors and I've read some where the author should go back to school rather than try to sell stuff that's not worth the paper it's printed or the disc space it takes up on the reader. These people need to be told they can't write and stop wasting everybody's time and taking their money to do it. If you can't approach the author and give him/her some constructive criticism, then you get their attention through a book review aka talking about it.

I agree with Anne Rice simply because she contradicted her own mythology

I don't know who that is but I hate authors that are only writing to get their book made into a hit movie.

Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid's Tale is an uninteresting concept, made more drab by the flat antagonists(i.e; The Commander)

Can I add Paulo Coelho?
I seriously can't understand how his lost cliché New-Age-y thoughts reach and strike so many people as inspiring or original.
