I really liked it. I'm looking forward to reading the rest in the series now.

The film is quite good too!

I'd like to ask people who have read the whole series whether or not they think the later books in the series develop and improve upon "Divergent." Otherwise, do later volumes affect your thoughts on the first book in a negative manner?

1/4. Honestly, I hated this book. I think that the characters were weak and so was the plot. It was similar to other books and it's like the author took ideas and created Divergent.

My best friend loved this book and wouldn't stop talking about it. It was a really long wait for it at the library, so I never got it and then I forgot about it. I'll just have to read it now.

I read this hoping it would cure me of my Hunger Games hangover. I flew through Divergent and truly enjoyed it. I had heard many comparisons to the previously mentioned series but found it different enough to be completely riveting. Unfortunately I was not as impressed with the rest of the series, and found the third book borderline infuriating. First book only = 3.75 out of 5.

I enjoyed the book, but not the hype that preceded it because I think I expected more. It was a good book, but I stopped at the first one and didn't see the movie. I'm not sure what it is that didn't pull me in, but it didn't "grab" me as it has others. I know people who could not put it down, who needed all four books and I thought it was a good read; just not a great read!

I liked the book as separate from its series, since it was very well written and an engaging story. The rest of series though did not quite match up and consequently I quite gave up on them towards the end.

Divergent was a great read. I just loved it! I couldn't put the book down. I love to read about utopic societies and an authors creative ideas about it. I think her factions and how they worked were very interesting. The way you get to decide at 16 where you want to be is a great idea. I loved it so much I had to keep reading as soon as Insurgent came out.

I must admit that I first picked up this book because it was so popular. I wanted to determine for myself whether it was a good book or just caught up in the Hollywood landslide. Well, I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the book and really couldn't put it down. I thought the author was a good writer and painted clear pictures for me to build in my imagination. I enjoyed the book tremendously. I must say that the first book was my favorite out of the three. I would definately recommend it to my friends.

I honestly enjoyed the book Divergent. It had a twist to it that you usually don't have. It had parts of what happened in the future, while it also had romance and action. Divergent is a good book for people to read. And I honestly would have many others read the book. Veronica Roth is a great author. In the book divergent it took away our belief of what we know the world as today. It showed that you can choose who you want to be. Or that not everyone is the same. So all in all I would definantly recommend this book to other readers

I really enjoyed the book Divergent. I thought the overall concept very appealing. It had everything I really look for in a book : Romance, action, steady pace in the story. From the first page, it kept my attention completely. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

I would recommend 'Divergent' completely, almost purely on the fact that it has been one of the few books to actually make my heart race when I read it. Plus, the faction discussions I had with my friends almost caught up with the amount of times we argued over Hogwarts Houses. Amity was the final decision for most of us - they just seemed so happy!

I loved the way the book Divergent was written. I gave it three stars and would recommended it to anyone.

I've read the entire series, but I absolutely thought Divergent was the best out of the bunch. I felt that I received enough back story to understand what was at stake, but it wasn't so much that you're 3/4 of the way through the book before you're rushed through to the end. I thought Trish was an excellent protagonist - I think we've all felt like we didn't fit in at some point and felt like we belonged somewhere else, just like she did.

I also appreciated that, while this fits into the dystopian YA genre that is so popular these days, it tried to do something a little different (though I am sure there are many who would disagree). The different factions and their purposes are excellent and the thought that went into them was apparent.

Overall, this is a book that I would recommend - even if just for this book rather than the rest of the series.
